It was said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. --Sir Winston Churchill

Democracy 3, a robust simulation of society and politics that puts you in charge of a realistic virtual country and challenges you with maintaining peace, prosperity, and progress, is available on GOG.com for $24.99.

Somehow, political strategy games that give you leadership over a nation play out in fictional realms or ages long passed. You think medieval politics are tough? They don't even compare to modern time politics, where the generally obedient subjects have been replaced with ever-angry voters. That's democracy for you. Democracy 3, to be precise. In this multi-layered political sim you're tasked with running a country full of dynamically simulated voters whose needs, likes, and dislikes you'll need to deal with. With raging recession, unrestrained unemployment, catastrophical crime rate, and even creeping climate change, your virtual office will have their hands full 24/7! This is easily the most complex political strategy game ever made, with almost all the factors that actual governments should take into account in their actions. Your job will be a bit easier here, though, as you'll have all the actual data on your nation's condition, not just opinion polls to go by. This is a gaming experience that'll make you appreciate those in charge a bit more--or hate them with greater passion!

Find out if you have what it takes to govern a modern society in the complex and realistic virtual environment, where your revolutionary political ideas can't really hurt anyone. Get Democracy 3, for only $24.99 on GOG.com!

NOTICE: The DRM-free Mac OS X version of the game is on its way to GOG.com, and should be up for download soon

JinseiNGC224: I didn't realize this prior, but this whole series has been used in schools as an educational tool due to it's depth and accuracy to Democracy, which each iteration getting better. I guess schools also get special discounts on the games as an incentive to implement it in programs related to politics.

Nirth: I also read that. It's a pity video games or data simulations haven't taken off at universities on a larger scale for the sake of learning. We really need a revolution in the learning process so we can learn much more much faster the way our civilization is going.
Your right. The way our civilization is going there's too much change at too fast a pace and not enough education to keep up with it. Centuries used to go by with not much difference or advancement of society, now it changes in a decade or less. Social media was not much of anything in 2003, now it's the norm.

But we do need to be more educated in more things, from politics and economics to history, science, math, language, as well as philosophy and other humanities/ social sciences. All of it is important.

The unfortunate thing is there are not enough games that simulate real life, but if schools use Democracy games for political education, why not have other games used for purposes in other departments?
After seeing reviews and gameplay, this game is a must if you like intricate gameplay. I will snap it up on the end of year Christmas sale.

SpiderFighter: Yikes. I enjoy a good reality sim now and then, but this looks like something that would be utilized in a classroom.

Hope this shows up in the Christmas promo. Wishted.
"Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote."

"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

"Democracy consists of choosing your dictators, after they've told you what you think it is you want to hear."

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until a majority of voters discover that they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury."

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine."

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

"democracy can never truly work when most of the population is easily manipulated"

"It is important to have a sounder distinction between democracy and thievery than simply counting votes."

"Democracy is an abuse of statistics."

"The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."

"Democratic institutions can be made to work only if all concerned do their best to impart knowledge and to encourage rationality. But today, in the world's most powerful democracy, the politicians and the propagandists prefer to make nonsense of democratic procedures by appealing almost exclusively to the ignorance and irrationality of the electors."
(Of course. The rational and informed make up less than 10% of the population, so it's the other 90+% you need to appeal to if you want to get the most votes.)

"Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance."

"Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state."
(This game presents a fantasy, and appears to be used by some as propaganda, even if unwittingly.)
