It was said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried. --Sir Winston Churchill

Democracy 3, a robust simulation of society and politics that puts you in charge of a realistic virtual country and challenges you with maintaining peace, prosperity, and progress, is available on GOG.com for $24.99.

Somehow, political strategy games that give you leadership over a nation play out in fictional realms or ages long passed. You think medieval politics are tough? They don't even compare to modern time politics, where the generally obedient subjects have been replaced with ever-angry voters. That's democracy for you. Democracy 3, to be precise. In this multi-layered political sim you're tasked with running a country full of dynamically simulated voters whose needs, likes, and dislikes you'll need to deal with. With raging recession, unrestrained unemployment, catastrophical crime rate, and even creeping climate change, your virtual office will have their hands full 24/7! This is easily the most complex political strategy game ever made, with almost all the factors that actual governments should take into account in their actions. Your job will be a bit easier here, though, as you'll have all the actual data on your nation's condition, not just opinion polls to go by. This is a gaming experience that'll make you appreciate those in charge a bit more--or hate them with greater passion!

Find out if you have what it takes to govern a modern society in the complex and realistic virtual environment, where your revolutionary political ideas can't really hurt anyone. Get Democracy 3, for only $24.99 on GOG.com!

NOTICE: The DRM-free Mac OS X version of the game is on its way to GOG.com, and should be up for download soon
This looks brutal.

JudasIscariot: Well, you can have a police state with maximums on immigration controls but you'll still need to maintain the popularity required to win the vote.
Well, In Greece and in Switzerland, that's precisely how they do it.
This must be a game about people that love demos.

Oh wait, that's a 'c' not a 'z'.
I found this on Steam earlier today, went to discussions and found a thread about more information PCGamingWiki where they had a source about a GOG release. This looks like my kind of game even flaws aside but the price is too steep for what it is and I'm not going in blindly. Wishlisted for now.
How many playable country in the game? Can i expect something as close as Victoria II or Geopolitic Simulator?

Judging by the flags in http://static.gog.com/upload/images/2013/10/9d2c0d6375b9604090a4afddefb009c0b98de2d0.jpg it has the UK, not England specifically.

RedRagan: Can we turn into a dictator? pretty please?

JudasIscariot: Nope, I tried. Although Germany, at the time, was quite easy as all I had to do was maintain the status quo, which is chillingly similar to real politics :D
Can I run a democratic socialist government?
I really liked Democracy 2 and played for a long time. Good to see another sequel. This game is very different from Civ, Europa Universalis and others, because, like real western world politics, your changes are made gradually and the scope of the game is not to build an "empire". It´s well worth a try if you like sociology, political science, history, etc.

In Democracy 2 you could. Probably in this too.

You're right, how gauche of me :( Sorry about that, I edited my post :D
Wow, great release. Thank you GOG! I played this Democracy 2 quite a lot and I made a community wish yesterday. You fulfilled my wish.

Are we talking about the in-game equivalent of Sweden, then? :D
Looks like a game i'd enjoy, added this to my steam wishlist yesterday. Happy that I can add it to my wishlist here instead.
Available countries: UK, France, Germany, US, Canada, Australia

To be perfectly honest, I started with Germany to ease myself into it, saving the US for last, but even so it was surprisingly easy to turn it into a prosperous verdant paradise of liberty, equality and science in no time.

It really lacks inter-party dynamics to feel sufficiently "real" though and the preset state of Germany was strikingly off regarding a couple of laws.

Still, slightly pricey, but I do consider it a fun game. France, here I come.
Interesting. I've been following it a bit, but I don't think it's really my kind of game.
Not my cup of tea either. Rather put my little time into Combat Mission.
