Our intern screamed with fear.

Outlast, a terrifying stealth-based survival horror game with parkour elements, full of sickening insanity and unscrupulous violence, is available 33% off on GOG.com. That's only $13.39 for the next 3 days!

Did you ever have to run for your life? Like, really escape from something or someone threatening to kill you? Many people imagine themselves paralyzed with fear in a situation like that--immobilized by the sudden realization that death is practically looking into their eyes, and the breath of air they take is probably going to be their last one. Others, imagine they would put up a fight, facing the horror head on and taking their chances against the odds. Truth is, if you only get the split-second that adrenaline needs to kickstart the muscle memory, you will do the same thing as all your ancestors who survived in the race of evolution. You will run. As fast as you can. No, faster than you ever thought you could. Your senses will become sharp, showing you routes of escape your conscious mind would never think of. In this sudden rush of energy and clarity, your little fears will become irrelevant, paling in the presence of the greatest terror of them all: fear for your own survival. You'll be able to do things you never thought were possible, things you'd never imagine yourself doing, without stopping to think even for a heartbeat. That's how you survive. There are horrors in this world, however, that seem impossible to outlast. This is a story about such horror.

Outlast is a first-person perspective horror game, that has you fighting for survival (as in: hiding or running in panic) in a nightmarish mental asylum overrun by hellish maniacs possessed by unnatural bloodlust. Deep and immersive gameplay paired with excellent visuals and competent narrative will make you jump in your seat time after time. The game is full of ideas prominent to the horror genre and makes perfect use of each and every one of them. With a story and characters inspired by actual asylums and cases of criminal insanity, diverse hide or run gameplay with parkour elements, and many gruesome images that one can not simply forget, this title offers one of the most involving and terrifying experiences in the history of gaming. You have been warned.

This Halloween, you could be facing the greatest fears gaming has to offer, sitting in a dark room on the very edge of your chair, heart racing, with sweaty palms and dry lips, playing Outlast, for only $13.39 on GOG.com! The 33% special release discount offer lasts only until Friday, November 1, at 10:59AM GMT.
Will GOG sell the DLC too ?
GAH!!!
DangIt! DangIt! Dangit!
Did not see this game here two days ago, so I "bought" it from Steam so I'd have something cool to play on Halloween.
Suddenly, it shows up here too, and for the same sale price!!! Did I already say Dang It!?

Okay. I gotta calm down....Bought it again here so I'd have a proper version. I justified it by telling myself I'd have gladly paid $29.99 back in the day for a store-bought copy with box and manual and disk-check DRM. So I can live with paying the $26 or $27 I just paid for both versions. Besides, I couldn't live with myself knowing I gave money to Steam, when I could have bought the same game from GOG. So I did what I had to do, but I feel like I just threw away the $13 I gave to Steam. But then again, I always feel that way when I give money to Steam.

This will teach me for not being more patient!
Just finished it...
It was awesome :-)
Looks interesting.
It's important to note that I have very little that is positive to say about Steam. However pioneering they may, they do what they do poorly and I'd contend that some of it is done unethically. My experience with Valve over the years has been such that I wanted to have as little to do with them as possible but games that my girlfriend and I played together (Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and Killing Floor) required Steam. We've slowly stopped playing those games because of the state of those games and the behaviour of the companies behind them, finding that we enjoy playing Path of Exile (we're Exalted and Divine Supporters) and Smite (we've both the God Packs). Unfortunately, there are still some games that necessitate Steam that we like to play by ourselves -games like Quake for me and Tomb Raider (reboot) for her.

We made an agreement not to support Valve and were waiting for Outlast to be released through GoG before getting the game. Now that it's been released we can't wait to play it and gladly purchased it through GoG along with some games on the Halloween sale. We prefer to make video game purchases through GoG because they haven't done anything but continue to do the right thing by us for around a year. Not only do they have no DRM, they have very reasonable prices for digital merchandise, have helpful support that in my experience actually engages the questions presented to them (I've only had one poor experience with GoG support), and genuinely seem to do their best to make sure that the games they offer actually work.

I say all of this because it's important to me as a gamer to do business with people that I have confidence in. This era of video gaming is full of buggy, somehow GotY titles, forced online-only, consoles that seem to do less and less and games that have less and less to offer. I'm glad I waited and now I'm done writing. It's time to get into the game.

Likewise. While my actual experiences with Steam have been mostly positive, there have been two occasions when I tried to fire up a game to play, and got a "Your game is currently unavailable" message. This for a single-player game both times. In fact, NONE of my Steam games would work in those two instances. The first time, it fixed itself in two days, and the second time, it took one day. When I complained about it on a gaming forum, I got zero sympathy from Steam-fans, most of them telling me that if games were that important to me, I needed to get a life, which of course misses the point entirely. Which is that, according to Steam, I had "bought" those games, and yet due to some glitch beyond my control (which was never explained to me), I wasn't able to access "my" games.

GOG has never let me down. If my games are unavailable to me here, it's my own fault for not backing them up. With GOG, I know what I'm getting. I truly own my copy, and can install it and play it without ever asking permission from a third party.

All this to say that I'm really glad to see that GOG is getting a lot of new releases, such as this one. I hope it's the start of a trend. Since Steam became so prevalent, my gaming budget has been cut from $100/month to practically nothing. Now that GOG is getting newer games, in recent months, my spending has shot back up again.
Whatever happened to that review I sent in two days ago? It never appeared on the game's page and the "Add a review"-button is also gone. Did it not live up to some kind of review-QA (which would be sad, since I actually finished the game to give a fair and balanced opinion) or did it get lost due to a glitch?

I don't either but I still bought it on the official site. :P

Haven't played much but I fell right into a silly jumpscare at the start and stopped playing there. XP

Tried again and seems like a decent spooky/adventure/stealth game. Apparent defaults but I don't regret buying it. They have the decency to put several languages. Gotta encourage that.

I haven't played that much yet though, but from what I've read, it's better than a machine for pigs. :P
