So... should I have played BS4 before even contemplating this? It's the only game of the series I haven't played thus far.

Start it as soon as possible. I've bought it almost 4 months ago and I'm stuck at about 15% of game and can't move on since then :/

Not necessary. As you know, first three games contains their own story, which is completely concluded in the third game - Broken Sword was always meant to be a trilogy. Fourth game is like a bad taste, ruining your feeling after good food. It would be a decent game - if it would not be called Broken Sword.

There´s a new blonde girl in town so George will let Nico be (sic!) + they have sex in a game (as if that would be important - i still remember this being a selling point listed on a boxed version back in the day), and it is definitely trying to run on Davinci´s Code vibe - just plain yuck!

Just as BS5 seems to hit right with everything Broken Sword related, BS4 is hitting everything wrong.
In conclusion: you can play it, just don´t expect it to live up to previous three games.
Broken Sword? More like broken gameplay. I don't remember them saying anything about that when they did their kickstater.

I'll wait until both parts of this game is out before I consider buying it. I don't buy half games.

...except that 4 is way, way better than 3. Not that 4 was particularly good, mind, but 3 was laughably bad.
I can't wait for new Revolutionary game..

Trilarion: I'm just curious. How can a single game that's probably not much deeper or worse than many others change someones relation towards a whole genre?
Generally I despise Adventure games. King's Quest did that with "you can't do that here". As the game play and the interface continues to evolves along with a more compelling storyline, I think this may change my mind about the genre.

Dear lord some people can bitch ... You get BOTH episodes and they're only a few months apart, not a few years *cough Half-Life cough*. I think it's cool they're releasing the first part sooner instead of waiting for the entire game to be released - it's a short period of time.
I'll bite. I still remember the first game vividly...good times. The dialogue was good, the puzzles mostly fair, but the thing that impressed me most was the artwork. Simply beautiful. The new game looks good to, I hope it will live up to our expectations.

The demo got released today for backers and I find the artwork brilliant. When you step out of the art gallery, I was immediately struck with a very powerful sense of "yay this is exactly right!". The game feels spot on as a Broken Sword game - which, ironically, only the first game managed to do. The second too, but you could tell they had cut a lot of corners (to save money apparently) which made it a little rougher.

The only thing that lets it down, is the animation. Where the first game had brilliantly animated drawings which felt ultra smooth (and which totally knocked me over), the animation here is stilted and wooden - the intro with the eagle, for example, feels weird because, compared to the raven from the first game, the eagle feels very fake and stiff when it flies. It feels wrong.

Thanks, that makes me even more excited about the new release. Can't wait until Wednesday!

I've noticed that in the trailer. The way characters move resembles Flash animation, which I personally find cheap. Oh well, at least we've got the beautiful backgrounds!
Is there a confirmation that the 2nd episode will have the same languages for audio? I don't want to pre-order now and get a bad Deponia-surprise.
Or a New Beginning surprise ;)
I had not realised there was a kickstarter for this game. So out of touch. I'm not normally one for season passes. Might just pick this up as my last more expensive game of the year. The holiday season is taking a toll on the finances.

The characters are pre-rendered cell-shaded 3D models. Unless they changed that since last I read about it.

It's being built as one game with the whole thing planned and under way since the beginning, splitting it and focussing on the first half to begin with just allows them to release that earlier. Unlike Deponia and other game series, it's not "release the first part, and hope we get enough traction for a sequel to be worthwhile".

EDIT: That doesn't exactly answer your question, but I would be very surprised if the two part didn't have the same language options.
