GameDesigner: Its nice and all but what about some old games?
last two weeks were mostly steam games, and on April there was widely available ones.
new games should be in addition to old games not instead, meaning having only new games released in a day without any old ones as well does subtract from gog uniqueness.
before the new gog approach we had like 2 or 3 old and rare games a week, with a price of about 6-9$ , now its mostly new games and not that old of a games (like AC and RCT3) at 20$ price point.
thats my opinion on the matter.

Waiting for:
WC prophecy
System Shock
Age of empires ,all of them (its about time :P)
As someone else said, they're mixing things up, but we just got Quest for Glory and Zeus + Poseidon, both over 10 years old. (For me, that's old "enough" to be considered classic; I'm a pre-'04/'05 guy) I would post the occasional reminder too (because I too am here for the old games), but let's not pretend like they've stopped releasing old titles.

I'm guessing (with all due respect) that you are not very familiar with how GOG acquires the rights for many of these games, nor what serious legal hurtles might be involved. System Shock is a mess (though I still retain hope), and the Age of Empires series is owned by Microsoft, so both of those will probably be really challenging to get here. Since the other Wing Commanders are here (EA has entered into a deal with GOG), as far as I know Wing Commander: Prophecy should show up eventually, although probably not the expansion pack (given the legal woes with those, too).

jimbob0i0: Well with this added it twisted my arm... missus said I could grab both before the %50 promotion ends....

Downloader and NAS in overdrive ;)
HA! I know what you mean about talking to the missus. I feel like a jerk if I don't give the wife a heads up before I buy myself something.
The description of the game says:

"Fight till dawn arcade mode: In the action-packed Arcade Mode, you’ll need to master the Fight with Light mechanic to stay alive until dawn and beat your friends on the Leaderboards. Can you survive until sunrise?"

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/alan_wakes_american_nightmare

But on the Remedy forum:

"The GOG version doesn't have leaderboards or achievements (they have no such infrastructure yet)."

http://community.remedygames.com/showthread.php?p=150536

Is the description wrong?

NoClusterForGOG: Is the description wrong?
I'd say that both descriptions are wrong. I'm almost sure that the GOG version is indeed missing leaderboards and achievements as GOG does not host any service of this kind (which I don't consider a bad thing). And I think that Remedy's statement is wrong because of the evil little word "yet". I doubt that GOG is even planning to provide this kind of stuff. They are about providing games, not online features and so on. The GOG version could only provide these features if they were hosted by the developer or publisher - and since Alan Wake's achievements and leaderboards are powered by Steamworks it's unlikely that these things will ever find their way to the GOG version.

And personally I must say that I couldn't care less. Achievements are for suckers and in case of all PC games this kind of leaderboards gets hacked sooner or later anyway (as it was the case with Hitman Blood Money, making its leaderboards one of the most useless features of all time). But at least the GOG version is guaranteed to work a whole lifetime. :P

SimonG: Am I the only one who thinks the cover artwork looks like a tie-in for a Tool Time/Home Improvement game?
My thoughts exactly, but it does fit the uninspired protagonist a lot better than the ridiculous wannabe-cool dress of the original game.
However this seems to be a more action oriented part, and I don't care for the absurde story anyway.
Bought.

Please note:
the 25% discount for owners of the first game only seems to work, if 'American Nightmare' is the first item, you put in your card.
At least, that's what happened to me, that the system didn't recognize the additional 15% off, when I had put in EA discounted games in the first place.
Alright, so I purchased the first Alan Wake here. When I go to pre-order this one; I'm not getting the extra discount. I will add that I have purchased the first one as a gift. However the promo page does state:
Save up to 25% when you preorder Alan Wake's American Nightmare! Buy it alone for just $13.49--or pick it up with the original Alan Wake and save an additional 15%, which makes your preorder price just $11.24! Don’t worry, if you already bought Alan Wake on GOG.com, you’ll get the additional 15% discount added automatically. ;)
So, I've bought it, but I'm not getting the additional 15% off. It's still showing up in my cart for 13.49 USD. What gives?

Try to buy it as a gift too?

Yeah, that doesn't add the additional discount either. This sucks. It's not much, but that couple of dollars I was going to save was going towards a weekend promo game.

Yeah, hopefully I can get an answer before it goes off promo. Thanks.
I still haven't heard anything.

/me knocks on the door of GOG headquarters

"Hello, is anyone home?"
Remove it from the cart, add again, log out, log in again... you know the drill.

I bought it yesterday, got the 25% discount alright.

Dolantin, I have to respectfully disagree, although I of course respect your opinion. I loved the story, at last, after such a drought an interesting multilayered plot with a lot to discover.
ummmmm.......isn't this supposed to be available today?
It will be, in a couple of hours. The release thread already got published here, but that was a mistake.
