Today we're completing the Tex Murphy collection with the release of Tex Murphy: Overseer. Let's take a trip down the memory lane and revive Tex's first case in a new and improved form.
Tex Murphy: Overseer is an adventure game, combining full motion video with 3D environments, giving you a believable experience of a P.I.'s life. It is also the fifth and, to date, the final title of the fabulous Tex Murphy series. The story technically takes place after the previous games, but is essentially a retelling of the first game - Mean Streets - only with a superior execution and even deeper plot. As was the case in the previous games, the FMV sequences include some well-known actors, which was rarely seen in other games of the type. All in all an awesome game for anyone fond of detective stories or a good mystery to flex the "brain muscle".
So is it the DVD version or not?

Judging by the size of the download; most likely not.
Anyway, purchased.

Unfortunately it's the CD version. If we're able to get the DVD version working without hiccups, we'll replace the current installer with the DVD version. We can't give you any promises, though, as the matter is pretty complicated. :(
Ah well. It's a definite purchase anyway, but cheers for letting us know.
Well, since you won't be doing any disc swapping anyway, it's still the same game, only with bigger pixels in the FMV sequences... :)
Bigger pixels I already own.
I really was hoping for a dvd version, so sorry, I'll skip this one until you can get it fixed.
Instant purchase for me, once again! :D
The DVD version of this game was the first DVD I ever owned by the way; it came free together with the CD version in my boxed copy, but I didn't get to play it until early 2000 though, since I did not have a DVD player in my computer before then. The difference between the two versions is purely cosmetic, the CD version already has a clearly defined picture, and the DVD version takes this one step further, and also improves a bit on the audio side as well, but the CD version is completely fine, really. There is still some pixelation, but a lot less than in the previous games.
As for the game itself, I would call this the most challenging game in the series. The puzzles and hidden items are just crazy sometimes, and I often found myself going for the ingame walkthrough more than I ever did in any of the prequels. In fact, without that hint system, I think Overseer would be one of the most challenging adventure game of all time. It is a great game though; one of the last great adventures of the 90's. Just be prepared for a real challenge here, if you are determined to go it on your own without help. I would definitely recommend it, as with all Tex Murphy games!

The DVD version has higher resolution movies.
Wonderful! :)
It's on my next purchase list, probably this Thursday. I've only had time to complete Tex1&2 so far, and need to get back to UAKM soon, then start Pandora Directive. Eventually this one...
No purchase from me. Sorry!
EDIT: Until the DVD version is released.
