A Neverwinter Nights 2 mod re-creating the original Baldur's Gate saga

With the return of our popular Dungeons and Dragons bundle deal many of you got their hands on a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete. This is one of the most large-scaled Forgotten Realms adventures with a lengthy main campaign and all of its expansions. It also sports a nice 3D engine that, even seven years after the game's release, makes a wonderful job of presenting the diverse and vivid fantasy realm the game lets us explore. Either you have this game in your collection, or you're thinking about grabbing it from our sale, we'd like to bring to your attention a miracle of a mod, that will make your Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete experience even more awesome!

<iframe width="590" height="332" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9m6m0ia8COo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Baldur's Gate game along with its Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Every location, every character, every quest, and every dialog line of the beloved 1999 classic have been carefully transferred into the 2006 Neverwinter Nights 2 engine. It took Drew Rechner--the project's lead designer--and his small team of dedicated modders seven years to complete this amazing mod, and now you can enjoy it absolutely free. The creators provide installation instructions, not complicated at all. All you need to revisit the Sword Coast is a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2.

NOTE: User registration with nexusmods.com is required to download the Baldur's Gate Reloaded mod (there is a free registration option if you leave all the payment plan boxes unchecked, but we encourage you to support this fine modding community).

For those of you who prefer the game in it's original 2D form we recommend our previous mod spotlight: Enhance your Baldur's Gate experience. For the next two hours you can still grab Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete, Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga, and many more D&D titles in one huge $20.10 Dungeons and Dragons bundle deal. The games are also available separately with 50% discount, and it will remain so until the end of our 2013 #NoDRM Summer sale. Have fun modding!

Nice! Definitely will have to give this one a try.
This is one of the best news I read here for some time...

I just have to quote Minsc here...

Minsc: Make way villainy! Hero coming through!
What about classes of BGR ? Classes are like in NWN2 ? or like BG ? I saw Kensai in BG some different classes :)

jjsimp: I haven't played NWN2, but I really hated the camera angles of NWN1. Are the camera angles better in the 2nd version? I may just have to load this up to see it in action.
In my opinion the camera is worse than in NWN 1.

Classess and races are from NWN 2. So prestige classes, drows, yuan-ti and others are there. So you can follow Sarevok's path and become Deathbringer. :-)
Ugh... what a waste. Why didn't he remake it for the Temple of Elemental Evil engine instead? THAT would have been worthwhile!
Well, now this looks interesting.

I agree that would be much better than the NWN mod. All these kids with their fancy, schmancy 3D engines. Give me my wonderful 2D back dammit, and get off my damn lawn!
I can't get any of the links to this mod to work. All of them take me to neverwinter nexus with a "file not found" page. If I put any rendition of Baldur's Gate Reloaded in the search, I get a no files found result. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Pax

Edit: OK, so I looked more carefully at the Nexus site, and this mod does not appear to be on neverwinter nexus. It is on Neverwinter2.nexusmods.com. If anyone else is having trouble with the links in this thread, this one worked for me:

http://neverwinter2.nexusmods.com/mods/794//?

Did you register on the site. I downloaded straight from the site, but had to register.

I didn't register until after I found the proper page on Neverwinter2 Nexus, but now that you mention, I checked, and the original links work now that I have an account. I suppose if anyone else wants to check out the mod before registering, they can use my links :)

Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Now if I can figure out how to extract these RAR files, since I already used my 30-day trial of WINRAR some time ago and don't want to pay 30 bucks for it. I'll google around a bit on that. Maybe 7Zip will work?

Pax

Edit: Apparently 7Zip will extract the RAR files, so I'm set.

I used 7-Zip without problems

7Zip is the only zip program I install now. What's the point of all the other one's that charge when 7Zip does just about anything you can throw at it for free.

They probably could have kept the original BG graphics if that were the case.
Anyone who has purchased NWN2 in the past six years should try out some of the free online worlds in addition to the custom mods available for sale or download. My favorite, with tons of custom content and a great player base, is Realms of Trinity. There is optional RP, an epic story line, side quests and helpful DM's and players, custom items and a whole slew of fun things to do. You can go it alone or group up with others from around the world to challenge the evils plaguing the land. Very few restrictions on character classes, you can name yourself whatever you want, no "forced" RP, no random PvP (consent only) or other things that make me go insane with online worlds. I'm not a power builder, developer, DM or anything connected with this site, just a loyal player, but I have learned so much from this world, from the helpful DMs to the players, on how to build an effective character that I can enjoy, RP with it if I wish, join a party or just solo through the story line and really have a great time. I've downloaded mods and played through all the basic expansions, but this online world gives you a lot of options plus a bit of socialization, which makes it all the better. I advise people to check it out and see what it is about- www.realmsoftrinity.com. And if you have any questions, feel free to find me in-game, ladyhawke1973 and I'll show you around.

Neverwinter Nexus is also a site that blocks registrations from IP addresses they deem "suspicious" so making their content unavailable to those who use proxy servers.

A (French) download source that doesn't require registration can be found at:

http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/downloads/7936-neverwinter-nights-2/566-mods/34833-mod-baldur-s-gate-reloaded-10.php

Click the "Télécharger" button at the bottom to download. This covers the 1.0 release, not the 1.2 patch. If anyone knows of an alternate source for the patch, please post. :)
