You can add Omerta: City of Gangsters to the list by the way. Just found out the music is all found in a file called music.hpk. It requires the HPK archiver to extract them which can be downloaded here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/tropico-3-4-hpk-archiver.113705/

From there all that needs to be done is to extract all the files from "music.hpk" and it's off to the music player.

Found out about it from the instructions here at:

http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=17928

This can also be done with Tropico 3 by the way. to anyone who wants to dig around its guts :)

Eniena: Fascinating stuff. Not sure if you want to use the info somehow since if players do want the soundtracks to the missing games that badly they could buy the actual games, rip the tracks off the CD-ROM and, viola, they have the soundtracks.
Since physical media can be hard to obtain for older games, I won't add it to the list as an option (I'm trying to stick to regular sources that everyone can use easily). But it's good info so your posting can be of use to folks looking to go this route. I've ripped some soundtracks from my own CD collection, too.

Thanks, I've added this with a pointer back to your post so folks can use the tool to get their tracks.
Updates and a few new additions:

-- Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse
While searching for the soundtrack of Tales of Monkey Island I landed on the very interesting site "Quick and Easy Software" - it's interesting for us folks into game soundtracks; this guy has developed some nifty, completely portable tools that will extract media files from Telltale and Double Fine games. I tested "Telltale Music Extractor" on Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse and it works beautifully. All you need to do is to open the Packs folder with this tool, set an output folder and after clicking on the "Go" button, all music (and sound I suspect) files are extracted in OGG format.
I neglected to test "Telltale Explorer", but will do so by next weekend.

-- Tales of Monkey Island - I don't have it here on GOG, but I assume that "Telltale Music Extractor" can be used the same way as above (it is supported by the app).

-- Shelter - Mobygames list Retro Family (from Pid) in the music credits, but it's not on their ReverbNation page, so maybe it's not released yet (I made a note to check back after some time).

-- Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring - Mobygames lists Anton Dvořák, Edvard Grieg, Robert Schumann and Pyotr Tchaikovsky in the music credits for the game, so I doubt that a proper soundtrack CD was ever released.

-- Signal Ops - The fact they didn't include the soundtrack in their (failed) Indiegogo campaign tiers and no word about it on their site either, makes me think that no proper soundtrack was planned/ has been released (at least yet).

-- Stacking - The OST is comprised by classical pieces and original pieces by Peter McConnell and Brian Min (sources: and [url=http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/4172/P15/]here).
BUT!
Then I found "DoubleFine Explorer". Since I don't have the game on GOG, I asked a friend that does to do the testing and yes, we have results. It requires a little more effort than the other tool. The music is in the files within the subfolders of the Audio folder (Stacking\Win\Audio). One needs to select each of the .fsb files separately and "DoubleFine Explorer" finds all audio related files (MP3 format) and lets you save them to a folder of your choice.

-- SteamWorld Dig - Theme on composer's (Jonas Kjellberg) site here; the track's for online listening but with a little effort one can also download it (ogg format). In-game music was written by Mattias Hammarin, but I couldn't find it sold on his site or anywhere else.

-- Summoner - Music by Walter Shaw, Dan Wentz and Scott Lee. According to a few forum threads I found, a proper official soundtrack was never released.
Composer Scott Lee, who also goes by the name Dezacrator on the Internet, has retained the exclusive rights to the master tracks (released and unreleased). He put selective tracks on his YouTube channel during Apr - May 2013 with the following announcement:
Great news Summoner Fans! I have started production on a complete re-release of the soundtrack music for the video game Summoner, a OST I made in 1999, when I worked at Volition / THQ. This set will included completely redone music from the multitrack masters I own exclusively with all new songs never released from that era!

No release date announced. Please subscribe for more information and stay up to date!

Singing by: Clarissa Novales
I haven't found anything else pointing to such a soundtrack being out by now.

Some tracks are also on AtomicGamer, including a couple by Walter (Wally) Shaw, but it's unclear if they were approved by the composers.

-- UFO Aftermath - Since I don't have this game, I had a friend check it with "Dragon UnPACKer" and he had success. One needs to open the gamedata.vfs file with "Dragon UnPACKer", within it is a folder labelled "music" and contains two subfolders named "mp3s" and "wavs". The app allows you to extract the selected music files to a folder of your choice.
I assume it works the same with UFO - Aftershock and UFO - Afterlight.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any success in testing RonHayter's "Riveal" and "Revelator" (Cyan Worlds adventure games) due to Java issues, but I haven't given up yet.

Awesome batch of updates, that's some thorough research there mate. I will refresh the list as appropriate, with links back to your post where people will need the complete info. Cheers!

By the way, I have all three UFO games, so I can check them out and see if the tracks are unpackable in each.

Thanks, the way I go about it is first decide on a group of games to research, do the research and only post when I'm done with them :-)

I got distracted by the recent regional pricing mess, but devoted a few hours yesterday to catch up. I hope to bring in a few more results this week and if my friends work with me, we may clear a few more games that one can extract the music from the installed files.

I think this thing has derailed us all. I'm not sure what the landscape is going to look like when the smoke clears. For now I'm soldiering, and my thanks to you and your friend for helping to man the trenches. :)
UFO Aftershock has the music in OGG format within the mod_multim.vfs file.

UFO Afterlight has the strategic/tactical music in OGG format within the gamedata.vfs file, and music for the cinematics in the mod_gamedata_local.vfs file.

All can be extracted easily with Dragon Unpacker, as posted elsewhere in this thread.

EDIT: Added link for Dragon Unpacker

I've actually recruited a couple of friends as they have different games on GOG, but hey, aren't things like this that friends are for? ;-P

Question: how about adding soundtracks for games on GOG that have been removed? There were a few missing soundtracks from the games up until their removal and it'd be nice to help anyone who already has them in their collection by showing where to get them.

I'd be especially keen to find out where to find the actual soundtrack for XIII since the official GOG soundtrack for that was from a remix album and not the actual game.

Here's a constantly updated list of removed games:

http://www.gogwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_removed_from_GOG

EDIT: And I tried out the TellTale Music Extractor. It will work with almost ALL the TellTale games especial those on GOG. That means the music from Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Adventures, the Sam & Max Games, Back to the Future and Tales of Monkey Island can have their soundtracks extracted perfectly.

A few more

-- Atlantis -The Lost Tales - Tracks 2 (Awakening) & 3 (Rhêa) of the OST on The Internet Archive and [url=https://archive.org/details/Rhea-AtlantisTheLostTales]here in MP3 and OGG format.
Plus some low quality track-samples on RPGFan.

-- Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis - So far, only some low quality track-samples on RPGFan.

-- Avadon: The Black Fortress - According to this RPGFan review, the game has no in-game music (also mentioned in the cons of the game):
With the exception of a single opening theme track (which ain't half bad), there is no music whatsoever.
-- Avadon 2: The Corruption - According to this RPGWatch review, this one also comes with no in-game music:
Sound is another area where some might be divided, as the only music you will hear in the game happens on the starting menu and nowhere else.
Maybe you should consider moving these two games to the "Games Without Music" list? The only place I found the mentioned themes is on YouTube.
I also think that Geneforge 1-5 and Avernum: The Complete Saga probably fall into this category as well - Bjørn A. Lynne and Adam Skorupa are listed in the credits of a few of these games on Mobygames (Intro Music), but I couldn't find anything on their sites (or anywhere else besides YouTube).
Plus, I got the Humble Weekly Sale: Spiderweb RPGs and no soundtracks were included.

-- Back to the Future: The Game - One that my friend checked with Telltale Music Extractor. Open the Packs folder, set an output folder and after clicking on the "Go" button, all music files are extracted in OGG format.

-- Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures - I noticed that you didn't include this game - did it come with a soundtrack on GOG?
Another one that my friend checked with Telltale Music Extractor. Open the Packs folder, set an output folder and after clicking on the "Go" button, all music files are extracted in OGG format. What's interesting about this game is that Telltale Music Extractor dumps the files as a soundtrack which means it creates numbered tracks and a CD cover.

-- Costume Quest - Again had a friend test DoubleFine Explorer. The music is in the files within the subfolders of the Audio folder (Costume Quest\Win\Audio\Music and Costume Quest\Win\Audio\Music_DLC). One needs to select each of the .fsb files and DoubleFine Explorer finds all music files and lets you save them to a folder of your choice in MP3 format.
I know we have a commercial OST for this one, but maybe you can add this as an alternative.

I assume it works the same way on Psychonauts (.fsb files in an "Audio" folder), but none of my friends or me have it on GOG.

I've got another friend that has Brütal Legend, but he can't install and test it before the weekend, so we'll have to wait for the details on this one.
And I think that with Brütal Legend we will have covered all Telltale and Double Fine games, right?

-- Empire Earth: Gold Edition - the music files are in .dls format and the only tool I found so far to extract and convert them to MP3 format is a commercial application (FMJ Awave Studio which costs $99, so not a viable solution).
I assume the same goes for Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition and Empire Earth 3, but I don't have them so can't check them.

-- Real Myst - Real Myst 3D is listed as supported by Dragon UnPACKer, so I thought maybe it'll work on GOG's version too. I don't have the game, so I (again) had a friend check it with Dragon UnPACKer and he (again) had success. One needs to open the mara.dni and pera.dni files, within them is a folder named "wav" with a number of subfolders which contain various music (possibly also sound) files in WAV format.

-- SiN Gold - Another one I don't have, but luckily a friend does and one that Dragon UnPACKer works on too. One needs to open the pak0.sin file (Sin Gold\2015), within it is a folder labelled "music" with a number of subfolders which contain various music files in WAV format.

I've also contacted the developer of Telltale Music Extractor and asked him if he's still considering to add support for MP3 and WAV.

P.S. I saw that Eniena edited his post to mention the Telltale games, but I included them anyway to provide details.

That's a good idea, so I've repurposed this post to house the list. I believe I can move some of my Fallout links to there, and as always everyone can share what they have too. I was one of the unfortunate few who bought Dark Matter, so I can check into that one myself. Not sure if they ever released a soundtrack, seeing as they seem to have given up on the game itself after that half-assed "patched" ending.

HypersomniacLive: A few more
Mr. Understatement :)

avatar
HypersomniacLive: -- Atlantis -The Lost Tales
-- Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis
Skipped the first since we have a proper commercial OST available for that. But posted the links to the second, which will suffice until such time a real OST appears (if ever).

avatar
HypersomniacLive: -- Avadon: The Black Fortress
-- Avadon 2: The Corruption
-- Avernum: The Complete Saga
-- Geneforge 1-5
All moved to the "Games Without Music" section, as suggested. We can always amend their entries with the single theme track if sources for those become apparent.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: -- Back to the Future: The Game
-- Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures
-- Costume Quest
Added these. Wallace & Gromit are on the new, sad Games No Longer On GOG list.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: -- Empire Earth: Gold Edition
I agree, if you need a commercial, proprietary extractor to get at the soundtrack files, it's not an optimal solution for the average user.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: -- Real Myst
-- SiN Gold
Added as well.

Nicely done as always, mate.

I just did a quick search to see if the almost-game Dark Matter has a soundtrack, but no luck. However, I discovered you can still buy it from GOG, according to them. :)

Latest results:

-- Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge - And again one of my friends checked this one. The music files are in OGG format in the Desperados 2\data\Music folder and subfolders - no unpacking/ extracting required.

-- Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition - Tested with Dragon UnPACKer. The music files are in the DUKE2D.GRP file and in MID format which can be played in AIMP3 and converted to other formats with XRecode II provided you have the right soundfronts installed (the program does a good job telling you what you need, where to get it and in which directory to install it).

-- Dragonshpere - Followed up triock's info. The music and sound files are inside a .GOG file which sadly requires a commercial proprietary application that costs $89+. They do have a 14-days trial, but not sure if it's worth the hassle. If other games also use this format, we're out of luck :(

-- Enclave - Once again put one of my friends to the task. Open the various Waves_X.xwc files (where X=0-3) with Dragon UnPACKer. The path is Enclave\Sbz1 and the music (and sound) files are in OGG format.

-- Red Baron Pack - The only thing I managed to find is a forum thread about the absence of in-game music in Red Baron 3D.
Maybe another candidate for the "Games Without Music" list?

I'm a bit confused about the reasoning behind what's been added for the Ultima Series games and what not. If I understood correctly the descriptions and explanations on the Rabbit´s Lair, the music in OGG format was "ripped" from the games, with a couple of exceptions (like Ultima 3 Exodus).
While awaiting clarification, here's what's available along with suggestions on why & how to add them:

-- Ultima 3 Exodus - Music from the Commodore 64/128 version (Rabbit´s Lair) in OGG format.
http://www.ultima.rabbitslair.de/ultima345.htm
Maybe add them in the "Further Releases" list?

-- Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar - Selected tracks (The Ultima Codex) in .au format; these can be played with foobar2000 and can be converted to other formats with XMedia Recode or exported as other formats with Audacity.

-- Ultima 6: The False Prophet - Music (Rabbit´s Lair) in OGG format.
Ok, here's the deal with this one:
*~ Tracks 2 - 13:
Tracks 2 - 13 is the original music from the game played on a Roland LAPC-1. A Creative Soundblaster Audigy was used as recording device. This is how the original soundtrack was meant to sound in those dark times. This soundtrack is almost 100 percent of what Origin meant the music to sound like. The medley on Origin Soundtracks sounds exactly the same as these versions do. It is the full soundscore of all ingame music.
*~ Tracks 14-19: rearranged Ultima 6 music by Tom Grandgent (more can be found on his own page).
*~ Tracks 20 - 26: the Amiga versions of Ultima 6.
*~ Track 27: a remixed Amiga MOD of the original Stones done 1994 by an unknown author.

IMHO, tracks 2-13 qualify as OST and the rest could be added in "Further Releases" list?
The qualifying music tracks are also available in MP3 format on Dor Lomin's site here.

-- UUltima 7 The Complete Edition - (Rabbit&acute;s Lair) in OGG format: <div class="quot">All following tracks are recordings using a Roland LAPC-1 on a 486 with a Soundblaster Audigy as recording device (48khz). This soundtrack is 100 percent of what Origin meant the music to sound like. The titles on Origin Soundtracks Series sound exactly the same as these versions do. It is the full soundscore of all ingame music in order of appearance. </div> Also available in MP3 format on Dor Lomin's site [url=http://dor-lomin.com/archive/ultima/musicarchive/u7/]here (these are less than the Rabbit´s Lair ones).

-- Ultima 8 Gold Edition - Music (Rabbit´s Lair) in OGG format; there are two versions available.

-- Ultima 9 - (Rabbit&acute;s Lair) in OGG format; according to the site owner: <div class="quot">All music has been ripped out of the game and then been converted to wave files, which have been cut and rearranged for this compilation. I only used the names for better identification. </div> The Original Ultima 9 Dragon Edition soundtrack, along with Extra Tracks, is available on The Ultima Codex [url=http://ultima9.ultimacodex.com/the-ultima-9-soundtrack/]here.

Regarding the sad "Games No Longer On GOG" list - are we trying to find the OSTs even though the games are no longer available for purchase?
Whatever the case, I'd like to point out that to the best of my knowledge (Game Shelf/ backups, friends, Webarchive and GOGWiki), the following games were available with the content mentioned below:

-- Cryostasis - Main theme in MP3 format (quite possibly the only music the game had).

-- Fallout - OST in MP3 format.

-- Fallout 2 - Same as above.

-- Fallout Tactics - Same as above.

-- Guilty Gear Isuka - OST in MP3 format.

-- Guilty Gear X2 - OST in MP3 format.

-- ObsCure - OST in MP3 format.

-- Re-Volt - OST (PC and Dreamcast versions) in MP3 format.

-- Republic: The Revolution - OST in MP3 format.

-- XIII - OST in MP3 format.

In case any of the above information is inaccurate, please correct me.

And if we're looking for the soundtracks:

-- Colin McRae Rally 2005 - Colin McRae Rally - The Official Soundtrack, Pt. 2 by Jonathan Colling on Amazon.

-- Mobile Forces - Possibly another case of no in-game music as Mobygames lists only credits for Audio.

-- Republic: The Revolution - A few samples and the full OST on [url=https://soundcloud.com/jameshannigan/sets/republic-the-revolution/]SoundCloud by James Hannigan himself; I repeat that with a little effort one can download the tracks from SoundCloud.

-- Second Sight - Soundtrack by Graeme Norgate on Bandcamp (great work).

-- TOCA Race Driver 3 - Official Soundtrack, unfortunately only, on iTunes.

I'd also like to suggest that you replace various terms for linking to a post or an external source, like: (see post) and (instructions), with the term [info] as it's the shortest and saves you some characters.
I find it such a shame that the soundtrack is not offered with the game and sold elsewhere. It should actually be included to encourage people to buy the game. That's my opinion though.

Senteria: I find it such a shame that the soundtrack is not offered with the game and sold elsewhere. It should actually be included to encourage people to buy the game. That's my opinion though.
I agree, but as soundtracks have become more desirable on their own over time, it is often a way for the musician to see a better profit from the game than their fractional share of the game's profits. I expect it also encourages more professional musicians to score games in that case. I don't begrudge them the chance to make a fair amount from their work, but like you I do miss getting the soundtrack with the game like we used to.
