It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

this is not just on the GOG server.

I am only able to stay connected to servers for a few minutes at best, the usual error is either the following or similar:
Internal Exception: Java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: Socket write error.

I have Java fully updated and done some searching that suggests certain wireless cards (none of which that i have read are Belkin which is what I use) can be the issue.

Another cause seems to be to do with firewalls. Anyhow I tried shutting my firewall (COMODO) down and giving that a try but it didnt make any difference,

I have seen posts about this dating back to September 2010 and it doesnt seem to be fixed. Ive read that Notch has been a bit lazy and spending more time partying that working on the game but come on...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anyone experienced this and found a way around it?

Thank you all for reading and hopefully helping

I get that also when playing online. Use the browser game instead of the executable. That seems to do the trick for me.

No joy three times with:
Internal Exception: Java.net.sockettimeoutexception: Read timed out
Last time I had troubles like that, I had to re-download minecraft. that seemed to sort it out.
Darn, no idea then. :( Best of luck.
Try deleting the Bin folder and running MC again.

COMODO. It is notorious for causing all kinds of compatibility problems, and from my own experience I can tell you a story of Lazarus IDE not working till I uninstalled COMODO, and nope, merely disabling COMODO didn't help at all.

So I wouldn't be surprised in slightest if that's the case.
cool thanks for the advice, I shall put it to use later in the morning... 01.16 at the moment and im off to bed.

If anyone can think of anything else let me know please.
Are you able to test this on a wired connection?

Comodo's firewall shouldn't be the issue because that's what I have and have had no problems using multiplayer (despite me being in New Zealand with a ping that looks like a high score).

Failing that, some players with 64-bit versions of Windows have reported that mysterious problems have gone away after switching to the 64-bit version of Java. To do this uninstall the current version and download the 64-bit version from this page.

Kind of a generic error with many possible solutions. :/

For me what worked from the one connection I had this on, was setting Limit Framerate (under Options -> Video Settings) to On.
A combo of basically all of what is written seemed to work. I had removed the .minecraft last night but it left a couple of files behind and think that was it so I will mark the run through browser as an answer when I have had more time to test.

Thankyou all and I shall report back.
Ok all looks good, been in a few servers with no issues,

I marked Kiva as the answer because it is running through the browser after cleaning out a few straggling files that found thier way into the windows system 32 directory instead of all being in %appdata% -> .minecraft.

so looks like ill be adding another favourite...
Can someone tell me something about Minecraft? I don't really get the point of the game other then building stuff.

Its more about expression and creativity if you ask me, if you play it without invedit then is there the achievement side of it too, with MP its seeing that others put you constructions to shame :-(
