Gotta question about the RAT 7 MMO gaming mouse from Mad Catz.

This is a butt ugly mouse, seriously. I love the look of it, and I especially like the placement of the buttons. However, I'm not an MMO gamer, and I'm not sure I'd use all of the buttons, though I could see a use for many, and certainly more than the two side buttons on my current MS sidewinder mouse.

Question is, has anyone used one of these, and for which games and how well did it work?

Interesting looking mouse. I also have big hands, hence looking for something either adjustable of bigger. Can't seem to find it around here though. It gives a shop name in Switzerland (but in a completely different city), but I can't find it on the online shop. Poop. Do you mind me asking what it cost?

The cheapest i could find in Finland was 54,90€. The average price seemed to be around +-60€.

note this is the 2nd revision which is quite new. So you should pay attention not to get the older model without "R2" if you happen to find it somewhere. Unless its really good deal ofcourse :)

Oooh. That's only about 73 Swiss Francs... a little over half of the price of the RAT 7 MMO.
But the 7 MMO is ugly as all sin and it speaks to me in dark and horrid tones and I've been looking at it for some time.

Logitech G502 looked "abit" more bearable than the RAT. Has alot of good features, but isnt perhaps as customizable as the RAT. I ended up with the Func mostly because i was hoping it would feel better in hand - but ofcourse no idea on that yet.

How is the quality of this mouse? Is it something that will last a long time(more than 1 year at least)?

RAT has 1year warranty, the Func i listed earlier has 2 years.

I have a Saitek Cyborg R.A.T. 7.
The pickiest laser I've ever experienced. It can't work on even slightly shiny mats, or desks, and the slightest dirt kills it.
And it has two separate lasers for vertical and horizontal movement, so both have to work perfectly or the cursor is fucked.
The best mat I could come up with without buying a fitting new one was a sheet of white paper. I have to change it regularly, because, as it glosses over with rubbing, the laser goes haywire.

I just got a new mouse: the Logitech G100s. It's a pretty basic gaming mouse, but it was really cheap and it gets the job done. The only additional button it has is the one to switch the DPI. It's a small mouse, but that's not a problem for me since my hands are small and i use a claw/fingertip hybrid grip (palm grip wouldn't work on a mouse so small).

My old mouse broke and i wanted a mouse as similar as possible to my old A4tech so it wouldn't take that long for me to get used to it. This Logitech is the closest one i could find and it worked exactly as i wanted. It's very similar to my old mouse and i got used to it in one day.

Now that is some good information, I haven't heard that one before for the RAT mouse. My Sidewinder occasionally has issues if small hairs get stuck in the laser opening, and that can be infuriating.

I've been waiting for the Sidewinder to die, but the damn thing just keeps going. It's getting old though and I want a new one. I'm trying to justify getting a new one by claiming I need more buttons. This isn't strictly true, but I'm sticking with it!

I will say this for the Microsoft Sidewinder gaming mouse. It's a damn good mouse and hardy as hell. These days the 2000 max DPI is low for a gaming mouse, but apart from that it has been a very good piece of equipment. If MS had an updated version then I'd definitely take a look. Last I checked, though, they didn't have anything really on offer that was new.

Why is it low? I find it way too hard to use higher DPIs. Unless you really like a sensitive mouse.

I'm using the lowest DPI my mouse supports (1000) and i really don't want to go any higher than that. On my old mouse i used 600 DPI, even though it could go up to 3000 or something.

It's just an indication of the age of the technology. The DPI is low compared to the max DPI for current gen gaming mice. For example, the Func MS 3 r2 is 5700+, the RAT 7 MMO is 6400. I've seen them up to 8000. A max of 2000 DPI does show it to be fairly old, and relatively low these days.

But higher DPI has nothing to do with quality or how new the mouse is. That's just one of those marketing gimmicks that really don't mean that much (reminds me of the days when people thought a 512MB video card was automatically better than one with lower memory). DPI is just a measure for sensitivity.

In fact, many high end mouses do not have DPIs that high because it's pretty useless past a certain point. What matters the most is the quality of the sensor, and this can't be measured by a "number". And it has nothing to do with the age of the technology. There are high end mouses being produced which still run at around 3200 DPI max. 2000 DPI is not old nor low. It all depends on personal preference.

I did say it was just an indication. I never said it was all. And it is true that for most gaming mice now 2000 DPI is low, if not already dropped off the bottom end, so yes it is an indication of age simply because the technology has moved on. I didn't say it was an indication of quality, and I did defend the quality of my current, if old, mouse.

Admittedly I did once get my hands on a mouse that claimed, on the box, to have a sensitivity of 20,000 DPI (and yes, that is correct). The damn thing was unusable, and there was no way in any settings that I could slow it down enough to use it on my computer at the time. It was some unknown brand, I think from India, that was being sold in the computer store, and there I learned that DPI is not everything!

TBH, I would probably use the mouse, any mouse, at around 4000 if I could, and then alter the sensitivity to suit my style.

I also want to reiterate, I am grasping for reasons to update my mouse simply because I want a new one, not because my old one is broken. Short of taking a hammer to it, it just seems to keep on going. It's the bloody Energizer bunny of mice! I simply want a new mouse, like the look of the RAT 7 MMO cause it's damn ugly, and for a mouse that has numerous thumb buttons it does seem intuitive, and is adjustable so I can make it fit my hand. The 6400 DPI is just some number it says on the box. (As for the Func MS3-r2, It looks very nice, but I haven't seen anything more than professional reviews, and would like to get some user feedback before diving into something that new, but it is very tempting).
