So after messing around in the demo for East India Company I'm wondering if there are any other games out there that do a good job of simulating sea battles between old-time navies. Something other than Total war (not that its a bad option, just computer just won't run it). I'm not even opposed to older style graphics so long as it gives a good broadside ;)
You could check out Imperial Glory here on GOG - I've never played it myself, but I recall hearing ship-based combat was what it made it a solid choice next to the Total War games (at least until Empire came along).
Once upon a time, there was a game called age of sail. Well, two of them. The first, released by Empire in the wake of the battlegrounds series was quite accurate. AOS II provided much better grapgics but sacrificed some accuracy in the process.
Look under "P" in the catalogue.

There's Victorian Admirals and Ironclads (2 different games) by a small developer. They may be what you're looking for. Read this review

Commander: Conquest of the Americas is the sequel-ish to East india company and also has decent enough ship combat. Port Royale & Patrician has slightly more rudementary ship to ship combat, but it is fun.

Tortuga: Tale of two treasures has slightly arcadey naval battles.
