A platformer with the darkest of souls.

Spelunky, a fun but very unforgiving platformer with procedural level creation, dynamic and diverse gameplay, and charming 2D graphics, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 for the next 24 hours!

What makes an adventurer? Is it the stylish, but worn outfit with the dusty old hat? No, we've seen adventurers dressed in all kinds of rags. Is it his faithful weapon of choice, like the whip? Again, no. Some adventurers make do with an old umbrella and you don't see them complaining. Is it the imposingly funny sidekick, providing comedic relief to each situation, whether the hero likes it or not? No, many adventurers are lone wolfs. So, what do they have in common? The answer is: complete and utter disregard for danger, and very little imagination. This is a story of such an adventurer. A story, that would never take place if its hero knew any better.

In Spelunky, you'll be exploring ancient temples, caves, and ruins so packed with deadly monsters and traps, that virtually every step you take without dying is a cause to feel good about your gaming skills. The underground is full of forgotten treasures, gleaming gold nuggets, and shiny gems. Get the loot, escape the traps, beat the beasts, and rescue the damsel in distress (or a boy, if you're playing a female character). If you want to feel like a daring archaeologist/adventurer and you're not afraid of any danger, this game will feel like a dream come true.

Brave the breakneck underworld and try--just try!--to escape with all the precious treasures you can carry in Spelunky, for only $7.49 on GOG.com. Don't wait, because the 50% off discount offer lasts only until Thursday, October 24, at 9:59AM GMT.
How does a mouse/keyboard play with Spelunky?

Hillsy_: if you take too long the spectre/ghost appears to hurry you along

rtcvb32: Sounds a bit like 99 levels to hell I've played a little of.
Oh no. That's the thing I hate in 99 Levels. Good thing that someone has mentioned this, because I was almost going to buy Spelunky. Now this saves me a lot of regrets...
This game is honestly worth $60+ dollars to me, I haven't beaten the game and I probably have an estimated 40-60 hours played (not sure). BUY IT!
I just bought, been hearing great things about this one for a while. Can't wait to try!

You can try and dodge the spectre/ghost, but he takes up quite a bit of the screen; which if he touches you then it is an instant death.

Well, in 99 Levels it wasn't entirely impossible to avoid the ghosts either. But the thing is that I prefer to explore levels at my pace. And being constantly pushed by such a time-limit mechanics ruins my enjoyment.
I don't say it's something bad in overall, but it's definitely something I don't like personally.

Nice avatar... :D

Anyhow, excellent game, and the sale is a great opportunity for anyone who did not already buy a copy at the regular price. It's very well crafted, addictive, and there's tons of secrets and little "easter eggs" to be discovered. ( Lots of new content, compared to the older, free version. )

I'm mostly the same, which is why I played the original Spelunky with a little hack, which disabled the ghost. Since no such thing ( to my knowledge ) existed for the new game, I didn't really have a choice but to deal with the ghost. But as it turned out I quickly got used to it, and I'm not sure I'd even want to disable it any more.

It's arguable an important element of the gameplay, since it forces you to make certain decisions about the way you explore the levels, the amount of loot and items you can pick up and so on. It's really not so bad after you've played for a while.

Pass for me my platform days died with Rick Dangerous after dying 1 million times i now never want to see another platform game again.
just watched the promo video, wow - sure isn't the Mario brothers platforming I'm used to but still looks fun. also looks like it needs a gamepad to play effectively.
Dratted discounts! Tempting me out of my backlog shell.

This post brought back fond memories, as it made me think: What would Berzerk be without Evil Otto? =D

In any case, for some reason I gave away a key to this game a month or so ago...now I'm wishing I'd kept it for myself! It looks like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I've spent my monthly allotment already the last couple of sales.

EDIT: Ah, no, the game I gave away was Miner Warfare (http://www.desura.com/games/miner-warfare). I feel better now! lol
