You've got 1 new friendship invitation.

Redshirt, a deep-space station sim game that's a spot-on satire on social media "relationships", as well as a smart Star Trek parody that should resonate nicely with the series' fans, is available 40% off today on GOG.com. That's only $11.99 for the next 24 hours.

Social Networks: The Final Frontier of human privacy and dignity. This is Redshirt, a comedic deep space life sim focusing on online social life of the crew of a space station. Their mission in life: to post the pictures of their odd looking, tentacle waving lunch on their Spacebook profiles, to stalk their crewmates private holograms, to boldly collect more "friends" than anyone collected before. Fair warning: in this game, your character is low-ranked deck hand wearing a red uniform. On a deep space mission. In space. Avoid being put on away teams at all cost! This game is an absolutely bonkers look at life in the future, mixes together strategy, interpersonal conflict, Sims-like professional development--and a fair measure of Machiavellian inter-station politics--into a solid bundle of fun that's sure to amuse anyone who's a critic of modern society's habit of sharing, liking, posting, pinning, plussing, and friending so much that they miss the alien about to eat their face.

Every now and then we see that a game we fell in love with doesn't quite get the attention we imagined it would from gamers and media alike. A game, that deserves to be featured again. A game that deserves your attention. A game that will bring you lots and lots of fun. A game like Redshirt, now for only $11.99 on GOG.com. The 40% off discount offer will last until Thursday, December 12, at 10:59 GMT.
sadly still overpriced. the sales for this are supposed to be dismal, but that's the developers fault way over priced for what it is, got games half its price which have so much more content etc
Apparently the developer's formula - Star Trek + Social Network=$$$ - did not quite work out for Redshirt. :D
The game is way too expensive for what it has to offer, especially when you compare it to other indie games in the $20 range.
high rated
A game called "Redshirt" didn't survive it's first encounter with the online market.

What are the odds.
I would purchase for $6.00.

If you go to the developers website and click on "Buy Game" then "Buy Direct" you will see the price listed at $14.95.

The current gog promo for $11.99 is not a great deal at all.

I will wait for the price drop then a sale.

By-the-way, this game sounds like a rework and reskin of Kudos 2 which the developer is selling for $5.99 (right on point).

timppu: Come on, we know you don't seriously expect us to pay the default price in the oversaturated indie market, do you?
Pretty much this. Most of these games are worth the full price in a world where available games are cut to 1/10 their current number or less, but we live in a world where dedicated gamers wiil have a baglog of great games to play.

Unless a game is so bloody original and appealing that I feel an overwhelming need to play it right now (ex: FTL), it's hard to justify not either waiting for a good discount or waiting until the backlog thins.

I think a mistake a lot of those guys make is to assume that there is an infinite amount of room to accommodate new games. At some point., they gotta share the available space.

I want indie developers to succeed, of course, but I haven't been thinking how badly I wanted to play this game--nothing about it really grabbed my attention or screamed "essential"--and $12 is way to much to impulse-buy a game when I'm currently playing four other games off and on, and have plenty more in the backlog when I'm done with them.

P1na: Can somebody sell this game to me? Is there any reason to play this game when you dislike online social networks? I mean, I don't have facebook, so if it's about in-jokes of that, I won't get any enjoyment out of it.
This.

I do like Star Trek however, so I might be more persuadable on that front.

Yeah, I think I'd try it for 4$ or less (10$ base price, 60% off or more), because it looks somewhat interesting, but I don't think it likely that I'll be playing this game in 5 years from the time I get it.

They overpriced it. I mean, for crying out loud, FTL has a 10$ price point. Those guys have unrealistic expectations to double the price on a game that is almost certain not to be as good.

I'm going to reserve judgement on the game itself, but calling it a "Gem Promo" has got to be stretching things just a bit!
Gem promo less than a month after release??? I can't imagine it's selling well then, hopefully this will boost sales if it's any good. Not my type of game though.
Still a fiver too much for my wallet.
Guess which game's sales definitely flopped?

I kinda would like playing this game. I don't like facebook and all the social network stuff but I can appreciate a parody. Except that $12 is still too much and I already have hundreds of games in my backlog, so I won't be buying it any time soon.
Sounds like fun, so it got wishlisted!
Had my eye on this when it first came out, but the backlog kind of made the initial pricetag a tad prohibitive. Should be fun.
