These games are some of my favorite games of all time.

While Baldurs Gate was my favorite at one point. I think I now like Avadon more. The tactics of turnbased are just awesome and storywriting is better than any game Ive played.
I didn't even know this game was on GOG.

I already have Geneforge and Avernum, so I'll probably get this too.

assassin33: Sorry the length of the game?

TheEnigmaticT: Ah. It depends. If you're a slowpoke like me, I think it takes around 120 hours. (For comparison, Baldur's gate took me nearly 300 hours. I'm not good at these things, okay?!?)

I believe the official line is 50 hours or so.
Don't feel bad. Baldur's Gate took me 10 years which included three starts and finally I got serious and did prevail. I loved it too. I hope my next play through doesn't take another decade though. I'll probably be fine now. I don't play EverCrack anymore.

Btw, nice promo. I've already collected all the Spiderweb games at this point. Now to play them all! I hope i live long enough! Of course, this will not keep from buying the next one when it comes out.

TomNook: Great game. Available on Android too.
That is actually what I played it on. I beat the HIB version. :P
Yeah, this one was great. One of the endings is somewhere in insane difficulty.

BadDecissions: I've always meant to buy this, and then not bought it, on the theory that I should finish the Spiderweb games I already own first. But if you're going to put it on sale....
Exactly this. I almost caved and boughted it. Almost. I even added it to my basket. I liked that it sounds like its "Spiderweb for beginners". Then I googled it for some opinions and discovered there is a sequel coming out in a few months. That, combined with not even downloaded the other yet, let alone attempted to play them, I removed this one from my basket.

I might be going about it bass ackwards, not playing the "for beginners" game first, but I really don't think adding this one to my shame pile before even downloading Geneforge is something I really should be doing. At least, not for this sale, anyway. I might regret that. Time will tell.

JMich: Shouldn't that be old gognards? Or have I missed out on the free grog again?

TheEnigmaticT: Grognard. :P
I thought grognard referred exclusively to war games. When did this change? :o

singbird: Thanks. I'll look some let's play and see how it turns out.

grimwerk: You can get a large demo on the Spiderweb site:

Thanks.

Took a look but somehow got that feeling of "I've seen this before in every Avernum game", so will pass. Not quite feeling taking on the same monsters in the same dungeons and talking to the same dudes in the same villages trying to solve the same plot. : ) Two years is not enough to get over Avernum 6. You can flame now!
Ok, I just bought this game. I also have the Geneforge games.

Can anyone tell me if every Spiderweb game is isomeric turn-based?

Also, how does this game compare to the other Spiderweb games?

Thanks in advance.

All currently sold Spiderweb games are isometric I think. The reason being that this way Spideweb can reuse the same engine for every game and can focus more on the story and such, instead of the engine part. Which is probably pretty important since they're a small team. I think they have also received their share of criticism for this.

Don't know how it compares to others. But since you have Geneforge, you can probabaly judge that for yourself. And Avernum is pretty similar to Geneforge. In Geneforge you just go around yourself and summon dudes to help you instead of going around with multiple dudes the whole time. Yes, that's the biggest difference. : )

That's a good question. Sometime in the mid-oughts I seem to recall the common usage changing to simply refer to geeks who had reached the "venerable" age bracket. :P
