Randalator: Being a research fellow sounds suspiciously like real work.
Let me rephrase:

"research" fellow. And usually you are interested in the stuff you do.

You would be surprised how much fun it is.
Ageless, unscrupulous, and entirely unethical Florida University Professor with tenure.
One of those angry atheist university professors you always read about in copypastas. I'd effectively get paid to yell at people.
Professional lottery winner
Supermodel boob adjuster
Dune buggy test driver
Astronaut
Whiskey critic
Professional drunk.
Famous novelist.

More practical and realistic: private school English teacher with absolute freedom.
Any job in which you make a ton of money for doing nothing. So... a manager! :))
Porn star.
Aviation mechanic. Or a Pilot
Professional game tester!
Indie game designer. Either that, or an indepentent videogame commentator like Totalbiscuit. I assume he basically makes his living off that?

That would be fun. You basically get to talk shit about anything and anyone you want, and get paid to do it!
Freelance photographer or a movie projectionist for independent movies.
Wildlife Management was my dream, for which i'd begun schooling for until financial reality sent me back to work full-time+. To work outdoors, monitoring and assisting wildlife populations is the best job in the world as far as i'm concerned.

i'd settle for any work now, but my favored would be another job in a sawmill. Slicing flitches off rough sawn cants. Preferably with an old Forester Resaw. Big lumber, big saw, wise cuts. Best of all would be just like i had it before. Involved in all process from receiving to shipping. The whole mill my playground. Every job in it (save for one), i did and did above par. Was nice to have such expansive duties. In the hardest of times, there were just two of us to do it all. We brought her back and our customers highly praised our work. Was beautiful job. A druggie owner, then an alchy employee/owner sent this operation to it's grave. But for a few years, Stein and Volk of McCall Idaho was the best job in the world!
