Does anyone know how much it costs? My daughter has requested it for Christmas, but when I go to the minecraft website there's no indicator of how much it costs. Clicking on the 'Buy Now' button immediately takes me to a Mojang signup page, which really turns me off. Tell me how much the damned thing costs first before I decide if I want to sign up or not., FFS.
I believe it's about $30 right now. I saw a gift card for the game at Wal-Mart for $26.95 the last time I went. Thank god I bought it back when it was $13. If you asked me whether I think I've gotten $30 worth of entertainment out of Minecraft, I would say "Triple that, easily". I love Minecraft.
As Arteveld mentioned, Better Than Wolves is really fantastic. At first glance, the game seems largely identical to vanilla Minecraft, and you could play like vanilla Minecraft, more or less, if you wanted to, but as you ascend up the technology tree (which absolutely dwarfs the advancement of vanilla, and eventually rewards you with the complexity of 4x4 crafting recipes once you've worked your way there), you'll find a radically different game with exponentially more depth than the vanilla game.
It's also put together very well. All of the ideas are really great, nothing stands out or really spoils it all, and it's very stable. The only unfortunate thing is that barely any other mods work with it (Thankfully, InvTweaks does), but you'll hardly care.
Obviously, I've enjoyed Minecraft a great deal, and it gets better all the time. I've clearly gotten my money's worth and then some. All the same, I think $30 for Minecraft is a ridiculous price, but Mojang is greedy and know people will pay up.
