Xyem could have been working with prior knowledge of previous Mafia games, which are available to read in the forum. Or he may have read the MafiaScum Wiki and made an educated guess based on that. Either way, it hardly matters: there are reaons he could have known how they do business, and I wouldn't count mechanical knowledge as a slip unless it's knowledge of a role that did not exist prior to the game at hand.

The RVS implies an element of joking to every post. Each accusation is accompanied by a chuckle and no one can really take anything seriously. As a result there's a certain etiquette followed where no one is threatened by multiple votes, accusations are never ignored but always easily forgotten, and if someone calls you out the jokes end until you can shut their mouth to everyone's satisfaction. This does make RVS a bit of a drag, but the tenuous peace of RVS is a sacred thing. You can bet that the first person to break RVS will get hit by at least an FoS.

And on the note of the FoS: no one took it seriously because it was well-dipped in RVS cynical humor. It still can mean an attempt to push a bandwagon, especially from a player who's new or who's very very brazen. It can be used as a point of manipulation for other players, especially other inexperienced players, causing them to vote too. And simple peer pressure can get you enough of the rest to murder an innocent.

The reason why I know how the mafia work (despite this being my first game) is because a friend of mine ran a mafia game on a forum and we both read up on it so if there was something one of us didn't understand, the other might and be able to explain it.

Unfortunately, that forum had an Active Users List and the townies watched it like a hawk to see who was PMing a lot during the "night" phase, which ruined the game. If you have ever been on didimatic, you'll see I brought this issue up there a while ago.

Seeing as this is a forum, but without an AUL, I figured it made the most sense PMs would be used here and its a fundamental rule of Mafia that the mafia can only talk at night, which stems from its origin play in meatspace, where the mafia can't talk during the day anyway.

I was a Mafia member back in game 3 on this very forum - for that game the Mafia were given a 'quickchat' message board, if i remember the name correctly. I would guess something similar for this game, although they may have swapped it for pm's instead.

Just watch everyone post and decide who to FoS(Finger of Suspicion= someone you want to guess is mafia but not put a vote on as of yet for some reason) or vote(vote to lynch that person based on what they say and if you think they're mafia or not.). The first "day" which we're on now is mainly to make random guesses on who to vote/FoS for and such, as we don't know much about each other to make informed guesses as of yet.
