I have Flatout on here. Got 2 on Steam when they were both on sale there at the same time.

I really liked the first game. Great game, really impressive graphics and driving considering the year it was released. No, it's not a Need for Speed, or a Dirt, or a Gran Turismo, but it's good. If you're a snob about graphics then that's going to be a probem; and don't go in like an idiot expecting something to match the driving of the aforementioned games and the insanity of Burnout then you should like this because it's a good game.

Haven't played 2 yet. But from what I hear it's not a simple matter of "get the sequel, ignore the first". The two games are different in their execution and gameplay. The first is more a rally game. It's more about the racing (though laugh-out-loud worthy crashes will happen often). The tracks are more idyllic and more varied.

The second is more of an arcade bent. More towards the Carmageddon/Burnout side of things. The tracks are faster. Crashing into things gives you points to use for boost, which itself is much more important it seems this time around. The tracks don't seem as nice looking either, but the game itself is nicer-looking and has many improvements throughout over the first.

If you're after a driving sim the likes of those mentioned then you'll probably be disappointed. If you want insanity matching the level of Burnout then again you're likely just going to be disappointed. But if you want another good racing game that's got a huge level of polish and execution, as well as some laugh-inducing moments, this is it.

This game also has one of the best racing game expressions of the boss fight. The last track in this game is coming really close to what a racing game can do in terms of creating a boss fight in a track. The only regret I have for this game is that I coudn't save my replay for the last track. It was glorious! There should have been a save-replay menu option.

Real good games.

Everybody check out Next Car Game.

I have both of these from here. My youngest son loves "racing" with me. Even if we dont really finish too many races still have a good time running into things. Ah, the good times. Maybe some day he might even be able to pass me. But yeah love the crash physics combined with some realism (SOME) and decent feel for the speed of the cars.

Would buy it again!

Oh and as a side note @johnnygoging, Next Car Game has finally gotten an "official" name. Internet has it that it will be named "Wreckfest".
Thanks GOG... been wanting a racing game to play lately.
