Greetings, all,
Here's a little something for the space sim enthusiasts.

This link popped up in my inbox just now, and i must say the game looks better and better as time progresses. Even as a backer I'm still a bit skeptical since much still can go wrong, but dogfights of this kind combined with almost unlimited numbers of procedural worlds to explore could get epic ;)

Awesome, all I am worried about is the whole focus on MMO play.
Am I the only one who thought the thread title was "Ellen DeGeneres capital ship battle video"?

deadfolk: Yes.
Just checking! :D
Oh wait, my mind blanked out for a moment and I thought I was watching Star Citizen. Jeez, these two are in an arms' race.
that game looks great. but yes, the mmo side of it kills it for me.
It doesn't seem as good as a Freespace (edit : mechanics wise). I agree this just may be an early footage to show the music and the visual effects, but still ....

Thanks for the link anyway :)

Sure, that video makes it look really nice, but it's also very staged. My interest is definitely piqued, but it remains to be seen what the actual end product will really play/look like.

You *should* be able to play it through the whole game's galaxy off-line, afair. That question was asked several times through the backing process.

The on-line function serves as a way to play together with your friends, and adding more life, events and random stuff to the existing worlds. If they disregard the wishes of the backers, and make it into an mmo instead, my guess is lots of people will get royally pissed, including me.

Yes that is clear. But my worry is that the focus is on MMO play, meaning it is not just an option to play with friends, but the whole game is developed with massive multiplayer as recommended option. You don't get things like buying credits in singleplayer games that have a multiplayer as "just" an option for friends.
Yeah it is not aiming for MMO, more a limited MP (max 24 in any instance) with player actions effecting the evolution of the game 'world' (galaxy).

I'm a longtime Elite player and i'm just going to be playing this SP, either as SP not connected (so no updates/evolution of galaxy caused by other players, just pure SP vs AI), but i'll also try the connected SP which will update with the wider effects the MP gamers will be making on the game galaxy.

It is much less an MMO than Star Citizen for example, and David Braben and Frontier Developments are very aware of all the issues of MMO/F2P type play, we have been very vocal on the development forums about all this, and they seem to be listening to the player base.
