Looks like the recent trend for hacking continues, with 80,000 users' personal data stolen and a very vague rumour that source code for Deus Ex: Human Revolution could have been compromised (although I'd take that with a pinch of salt until confirmed).

Here's the Eurogamer article on it.

What is up with all these hacks these days, anyway?

I really, really hope GOG and Steam are more secure. But of course they are... RIGHT? o.o

GOG doesn't store CC data.

Steam on the other hand....

Well, nobody'd hack Steam unless they wanted to hold our data hostage for HL3 news.
I think the Steam is secure enought to prevent data stealing. At least i hope.
But who knows?

This may be another good moment to point out that we just amended our privacy policy because, as hard as we work to keep all of our stuff secure, the less data we keep the less sensitive data can be hacked from us by someone malicious.

Also, change your passwords if you've got an account anywhere that's been hacked recently. Heck, change 'em anyway.
Valve have already been the victims of hacking back during HL2 development. Hopefully they've learnt all they need to from that.

Its good security advice AND its written in blue, the most trustworthy of colours

Yep, the less information GOG keeps on us the better. Really, though, the biggest risk still remains at the user's end if they use the same password for all their site accounts, online banking, and email. Change it up, people! :)

Like "Not release episode 3"?

If you log in on someone's steam account, you have to verify your computer with a code delivered to you by email.

Didn't you hear? Valve dumped the Episodic model. There won't be an Episode 3 as a result. There might be an actual Half Life 3 eventually or some other continuation of the story but it almost certainly won't have "episode" in the title.

Only if Steam Guard is enabled for that account.

Steam Guard is enabled by default. And is working always when trying to log in from a website.

I've installed the new FireFox version and SteamGuard pop out when i tried to log in. Same with the old PC in my parent's house.

It might be on by default for new accounts, but even that doesn't mean much as a user may simply choose to disable it.

Great, with hl2ep3 being canned and duke nukem forever coming out we're fast runing out of "excessive delay" gaming memes.

About all we have now is how long it takes a JRPG to get to the point

My account on steam is 4 years old.

and even though someone disables SteamGuard - they do it on their own risk.
