I have seen a few animes, and tried many. I am thinking about getting into this one because the intro song is so freakin cool. Any of you oldschool anime watchers like this?
CB is great anime, I used to watch it all the time on Adult Swim. Just to give you an idea of my tastes in anime (for comparison), my first introduction to anime as a child was the old Force Five anthology series, G-Force (Gatchaman), Starblazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and Robotech. By my teen years I had graduated to the likes of Akira and Fist of the North Star. In my 20's, it was Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, etc. If your tastes in anime follow a similar kind of trend, you will like Cowboy Bebop.

I have all of Cowboy Bebop on my PC - series and movie. It's definitely one of my favourite animes. I watched it in the original japanese with english subtitles though (tv and movie like that) and seeing it on Bravo with the english dubbing is... weird ;)
I've watched the three first episodes. Seemed very interesting, but couldn't capture my attention at the time.
I have it, but it hasn't really grabbed me. I've been watching it on and off for the last few months, but i've never felt the "must just watch one more episode!!!" feeling that I've had with a few other tv series and anime.
The Jazz/Blues theming is interesting. And the chilled out space scenes have a nice 2001 meets Firefly feel. But the (apparent) bad guy that seems to be being introduced in the overarching story seems very "generic anime bad-guy".
I may not be the right person to say though, as recently I've kind of gone off anime. I think that the first anime I watched really grabbed me... I loved the random comedy, and the fact it seemed more adult than western anime, and the slow drip-drip way they introduced the overarching plot and moved from standalone episodes to a larger arc.
Then the next anime I watched had the same structure, but with an anti-climactic ending. Then the next one had the same structure, with an anti-climactic ending. Then the next...
So my interest has waned...
Are there any anime series with satisfying endings? Right now i'm mostly sticking to the movies.
I've just watched Cowboy Bebop for the first time last month. I have enjoyed it, even though I'm not a big anime fan. I had high expectations for it, having read many great reviews about it, and I can't help but feel a little bit disapointed. I'm more used to "modern" anime such as Last Exile. At the time of its release, Cowboy Bebop was praised for its great animation, which has not aged so well. Still, the strange "western in space" feel is cool, just like for Firefly.
Basically, I enjoyed this anime, but not as much as I had expected. I have no regret, since I purchased the DVDs on sale, but I would not pay a fortune to get a Collector Edition or something.

Yeah, the awesomeness of Cowboy Bebop is more the attitude/feel of the entire thing than the overarching story or anything.
Cowboy Bebop is very, very good. As mentioned earlier in the thread it doesn't really give you the "just one more episode" craving other animes tend to do, but it's definitely good stuff. I've only watched 8 episodes or so, though, and it's been a while since I last thought about the series... Am I holding back because my conscience is telling me I need to buy a boxed set before I watch the rest, or is it just not as enthralling as other stuff out there...?
In case there are french people browsing this thread :
Declic Image released a boxed set of Cowboy Bebop which is of good quality (not so many bonuses, but a good overall quality nonetheless) for only 15€ or so. You can grab it at some press stores if you're lucky (I was lucky enough to stumble on a copy at my local supermarket). The boxed set has been released to promote their "Gold Collection" which seems like a good deal if you're an anime fan. However, buying the first box (cowboy bebop) does not mean you have to buy the others.
For more info : here is the official websote of the collection
There are two things about it that you often hear.
1: It introduced me to Anime.
2: It's a masterpiece and there are contenders for best Anime ever but none have topped it yet.
If you ask me I agree on those points.
Cowboy Bebop is definitely worth watching. Music and ambient feel in it is what I like most. Seatbelts is one of my all time favorite bands.
One of my all time favorites, Spike is such a great Anti-Hero and his crew is absolutely memorable. Cant go wrong...
Oh and Keanu Reeves is going to play Spike in the Live Action coming this or next summer...

Crap. Between that and the Tobey Maguire Robotech/Macross movie, it looks like Hollywood has finally found something else besides comic books to exploit, rather than actually come up with original ideas.
You forgot that Leonardo DiCaprio' is remaking Ninja Scroll and Akira ^_^
