Danger ahead!

Spelunky, a fun but very unforgiving platformer with procedural level creation, dynamic and diverse gameplay, and charming 2D graphics, is coming soon to GOG.com!

In Spelunky, you'll be exploring ancient temples, caves, and ruins so packed with deadly monsters and traps, that virtually every step you take without dying is a cause to feel good about your gaming skills. Where is danger, there also are rewards! The underground is full of forgotten treasures, gleaming gold nuggets, and shiny gems. Get the loot, escape the traps, beat the beasts, and rescue the damsel in distress (or a boy, cause they get in trouble just as much!). If you want to feel like a daring archaeologist/adventurer and you're not afraid of any danger, this game will feel like a dream come true.

Spelunky will be coming your way next Thursday (August 8), but you can start practicing your treasure-hunting skills today! Spelunky was initially released on the PC as a small freeware game, with the same amount of challenge as the upcoming modern version, but not as much depth and simplistic graphics. If you want to get a taste of spelunking action, the classic freeware version can be downloaded on the gamecard (the link's right above the "coming Aug. 8" notice).

Have fun with Spelunky Classic and expect even more special spelunking features on GOG.com before the new Spelunky comes!

sebarnolds: Nice release, with a free bonus for everyone !

Austrobogulator: Well, it's not really much of a bonus...it's a link to a game you've been able to download for free for years =|
I see it as a bonus: GOG placed a link to it directly on the gamecard. Otherwise I would have to search Google to find it and download it. It is not much, but still.
I'm glad to see more Coming Soon games on GOG.
Wishlisted :D
so the price still unknown right nw izzit?? or its a free game for gog user??

The price is yet to be confirmed for the new Spelunky.

Spelunky Classic (the game's basic pixelated predecessor) is available for free, as it ever was.

It's not really as much a bonus as a way of previewing what the game will feel like. Not really a demo either, as Spelunky Classic is a stand-alone full game, that was always available for free. We simply thought it might be nice for you to see how the idea evolved from a minimalistic (but not simple!) little gem, to a fully- fledged modern arcade classic.

Personally, I played Spelunky Classic when I was waiting for the X360 realese, and I enjoyed it immensely. Then the new Spelunky came along and blew my mind. It made a huge difference, yet it stayed very much the same roguelike platformer punishment game it has always been at its core. I never got back to Spelunky Classic, as the new version is much more satisfying, but I remember having a great time playing it.

Looks fun, but the term "unforgiving" worries me, don't like hard games...
Also kinda sucks that the Daily Challenge is Steam only - I'm torn between DRM free and having access to the daily challenge ><
And here it comes as expected. It would be better mention Spelunky Classic in bonus content box at gamecard.
I am really sorry, GOG, but I will wait the Humble Store release so that I'll get a DRM Free version AND a Steam key allowing me to play that online bonus that is Steam exclusive.
That's third game with a "classic" version that I remember. First was Evoland, second was Ittle Dew. But I have one question - will Spelunky classic stay on GOG after releasing the full version?

The classic has been available since time immemorial, even its sources...
Really enjoyed this game but was hoping for some kind DLC on 360, which we never got (extra arenas and sprites don't really count).
Never knew there was a free version of this, but I also thought it was a 360 only game. So what do I know.
Wishlisted for now.
I have really enjoyed Derek Yu's creations, and can only hope that this signals the addition of Aquaria to GOG's lineup. In the meantime, I will be looking forward to playing Spelunky again, as it is a terrific mix of roguelike and platformer in one.
Did something happen to the freeware link?
