Prepare for a truly HOSTILE takeover
Welcome to the grim cyberpunk future of corporate wars and cybernetically enhanced soldiers. Both games from the cult classic Sci-Fi series-- and [url=http://www.gog.com/game/syndicate_wars]Syndicate Wars--are available for up to 70% off on GOG.com. That's as little as $3.58 for the hands-on experience of challenging tactical combat in a futuristic world without hope, regret, or morals, for the next 24 hours!

HEADS UP, EXECUTIVES!: This Friday, our version of Syndicate will be upgraded (free of additional charge, of course) with the sensational American Revolt mission pack!

The future, my friend, is corporate genocide. Fill the shoes of a "manager" for a global syndicate fearlessly pursuing ultimate profit. Your goal is to fight for territory and influence, using brainwashed supersoldiers--lethal puppets in the hands of a corporate mastermind like you--among the flood of civilian casualties. With each deftly executed mission--ranging from relatively simple extractions to multi-layered assassinations--bringing you closer to world domination and market monopoly, the means become easier to accept, collateral damage proving nothing more than a natural consequence of corporate friction. Gradually, with more cybernetic enhancements, overdrive-inducing drugs, and high-tech weaponry, your army of agents will become the foundation of new world order. Succeed, and you might just get promoted!

Syndicate series has been a stepping stone for the gaming industry: its morally challenging overtone imposed over a pessimistic, but extremely coherent vision of the world's future, set the stage for strategically demanding gameplay. The original , included in almost every "Best games in PC history" list, allowed you to become a ruthless enforcer in the world of miniguns and brain implants, treating your agents as chess pieces in a conscience-free game of life and death. [url=http://www.gog.com/game/syndicate_wars]Syndicate Wars was able to follow up with equally well-balanced difficulty level and immersive narrative, allowing you to fight for two distinctly different factions - the EuroCorp Syndicate or the Church of the New Epoch. If gruesome corporate warfare with real-time tactical combat is your thing you can't go wrong with those two celebrated classics!

Get the maximum available discount of 70% on the Syndicate series, grab both esteemed classics for just $3.58! As usual, any game you own counts towards the discount rate. The promo lasts until Tuesday, September 24, at 9:59AM GMT.

Crosmando: It's stingy as hell. Yes SW while not as good as the original, is a great game and worth 1 dollar and 79 cents *spits in disgust*
It's a zillion times better. For some reason people make the original Syndicate appear like some perfect masterpiece while it's not, it's the nostalgia speaking. Syndicate Wars fixes pretty much all things which were simply wrong about the original game and adds a whole lot of original stuff. The only thing that can really be irritating is the 3D view but you can get used to it pretty fast if you just want to.

The rotating camera in Swars is irritating though, especially when you have an agent behind a building and you come under attack, suddenly you need to use page up+down (I think it is) just so you can see what's going on behind. And in a game where you can lose agents quickly it becomes a real pain in harder missions.

SWars's designer (who recently did a kickstarter) admitted himself going full 3D in 1996 was way too early and the game suffered for it, original Syndicate used pre-rendered 3D into 2D maps and looked waaaaay better years before
Bought them earlier, but it will be great to see the American Revolt added to the original Syndicate. Great work GOG.
We're finally getting American Revolt ? That's awesome ! :D

Oh well, in the original game you could also end up in combat in an alley or behind a building and the only thing you could do in those situations was a) guessing where the enemy is (moving the mouse around and hoping that it turns into a crosshair somewhere or shotting around senselessly hoping that the spread will get him) and b) comparing the non-isometric radar to the isometric view. Well, except for one thing - you could use panic mode (pressing both buttons at once) but ultimately *each* encounter is best resolved by using panic mode and that sucks about the original game. In the sequel you at least have the means to turn the camera to get a good view and taking direct control in encounters is more important there making it IMO the far superior game.

Not to mention that the original game also had 3D architecture and navigating areas with elevated walkways and stuff was a nightmare, much worse than any issues with perspective and architecture I have in SWARS.

Also, having played Dungeon Keeper and Populous: The Beginning before I got SWARS I was already used to the idea to control the camera almost like a character in a shooter. One hand on the cursor keys at all times and turning the camera *all the time* - note that you don't have to press any additional buttons except for the shift key. I think the mistake that players make is assuming that you can just scroll around like in any tactical game or RTS and maybe adjust the camera from time to time - to me it has become second nature pretty fast to keep adjusting it non-stop and I don't have really any problems with the camera controls. The only thing they should have done would be to make characters shine through buildings so you see them despite the view being obstructed but even so I have no major issues with SWARS' view.

To each his own. To me Syndicate 1 was heavily flawed, also the visual concept didn't work at all in my opinion. They tried to make it appear like a "dark" game with only the streets being illuminated - but everything looks just friggin' bright, especially in those areas with the orange palette. That the roofs are kept in black and grey doesn't at all create the impression that the action is taking place at night, only that the buildings are painted black on top for some reason. To me SWARS looks just the way it should (like a dark cyberpunk game), only the characters could be a little more hi-re but oh well...

And as for the designers' statement - well, that many players weren't able to handle the perspective doesn't mean that they went for it too early. To me it just means that SWARS was one of the pioneers of 3D in tactical games necessary to push the industry in that direction. It's sad that one of the people behind SWARS doesn't see it that way.

Also don't get me wrong, I still like Syndicate. It's just that it's not nearly the perfect masterpiece that people make it appear to be and I wish SWARS would get more credit for all the things it does right while people just keep bashing it for being different than the original.

Great news about American Revolt! Now, we just need to see Deeper Dungeons added to Dungeon Keeper.
Good news and at this price can't refuse picking up SWars, never played it before even though I had two physical copies of the original Syndicate already had picked up a copy here to provide backup and ease of use. Love the stacking promos that recognize what you already have in ones library.

deonast: Can't say I've installed them recently to test I assume you don't get this phenomenon occurring on your windows / linux or mac desktop? When I was doing help desk support a few years back with laptops we would get that occasionally, sometimes you'd jigged the nipple (mouse controller in the middle of the keyboard) sometimes you'd have to get the keyboard module replaced.

I'm sure that isn't your problem, but just a thought.

Crosmando: Nah, apparently it is a bug in the game engine (SWars and Dungeon Keeper use the same engine), though it seems to be quite rare, doesn't seem many others have this problem, which is perplexing.
Do you have a special gaming mouse or mouse that has a software package installed with it. Just wondering if it has some issue with specific drivers / utilities you might be using with the mouse, since as you say not so many people having the problem?

Thanks G-Doc, it felt sooo good to read that too :)

Ah looking at the comments, it wasn't just me who had good feelings over this news. Everyone likes having the expansions included, even if I don't have time to play them anytime soon.

I'm just using a regular "Microsoft Comfort Mouse" with the generic drivers it uses. I thought it might be the drivers too but afaik DOSbox emulates the mouse so I guess it shouldn't be a problem. I might look into it more later. I did contact GOG support about it and they are the ones who told me the issue is rare...

Well not too rare apparently.
