The quest for coin and cleavage!

The Bard's Tale, the shining pinnacle of comedy among cRPG, bundled with its three classic DOS-era predecessors, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Let's talk about career choices in fantasy realms. You can be a knight, always overburdened by his full plate armor, never able to sneak up on his foes. Plus, your honor code won't allow you to take money for your deeds of valor. You can take the path of wizardry, dooming yourself to all the health hazards that come with handling all the poisonous ingredients needed to cast the simplest of spells. Not to mention the smell! Having your pockets always full of bat dung, just in case you need to cast a casual fireball, never made anyone popular with the ladies. Rangers? Sure, you get to spend much time outdoors, which is supposed to be healthy, but trust me: a lifetime of sleeping in a bedroll on the damp forest floor will leave you with a hell of rheumatism in the old age. A proper bed is a much wiser choice. Even more so, if it's kept warm by a frivolous girl. Some coin is always good, too. My advice--forget all other professions, grab a lute, and be a rockstar. Um--I mean: a bard.

The Bard's Tale delivers solid cRPG gameplay, a vast fantasy realm to explore, tons of quests to perform, and hundreds of items to loot. By all means this is a fully-fledged role playing game, but that's not what it's famous for. Brilliant comedy is where this game truly shines among all other titles in this genre. With excellent writing and fantastic voicing done by Cary Elwes (of The Princess Bride fame) as the Bard, and a gaming voiceover veteran, Tony Jay as the Narrator. There's an extra treat for the die-hard old-school computer RPG fans included with this release as well: the classic Bard's Tales 1, 2, and 3 DOS-era hard-as-nails games.

A fantasy land full of adventure, humor, gold, girls, and moderate danger that wouldn't pose much threat to a battle-hardened adventurer, awaits you in The Bard's Tale, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. Don't wait, because the 60% off discount offer lasts only until Tuesday, October 15, at 9:59AM GMT. Don't forget: with your purchase, you'll receive a FREE copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. That's two classic action RPGs for less than half the price of one!

thebes: Bought it the day you got it. Also for the old Bard's Tale which I came about two thirds finishing back in the day. Trouble is I have so many RPG's from you guys I need to live to two hundred years old!
Play them at the same time. I'm doing Lionheart, Fallout 1, Arcanum, and Planescape at the same time. Well that's what I do Monday through Friday. On weekends I play Morrowind, Soulbringer, Icewind Dale 1, and Eschalon Bk 2.

Did I mention I don't have a life? :D

It's a good thing you take the weekend off.

IAmSinistar: Too good to pass up, since it also includes the original. And here I was trying to play through my backlog, not add to it...
Yeah, this. Damn you GOG!!! You'd better make sure you make it compatible with Windows 12, as I reckon that's about when I'll get to actually play it...
Played the new and the old, and thought they were all great! Seriously loved the Nuckelavee bit. Especially the song. :D That and the "rare Scottish dialect." Glad to see it on sale, might have to snag one for a friend.
When it comes to hearing and interpreting spoken english I'm kinda halfway between horridly awful and spetacularly bad. Thankfully I can at least read. Does this game have the option to display subtitles to EVERY song and dialogue?

Bravo, Dandelion himself couldn't have said it better. Well, maybe just a little better.

And I guess technically bards are medieval rockstars!
Wonderful promo.

Yep. The new Bard's Tale has subtitles for all the dialogue and songs. In some cases the subtitles are influenced by the speaker's dialect, so they may be a bit hard to understand. This is actually intentional, some of these accents are so strong it's hard even for a native speaker to make out, so the subtitles convey this as well as the spoken brogue. These spots however, are few and far between. The original trilogy also has text for everything.

Good. At least now I know most jokes won't go flying over my head. :)

Thanks for the info.
My main exposure to this game was when my still good friend was tapping into it for PS2 some seven years back. Really not in a spot to be spending, but between the goodies and The Witcher (have on Steam, but still not willing to figure how to or bother with faxing or scanning anything) pushed me over. As a skinflint, have shot an e-mail over to inXile, see if I may wrangle a Steam key for it, too (hey, I'd like to see how much time I'll've blown on it). Regardless, downloading the tunes now!

EDIT: Urgh! The soundtrack has no track numbers, titles, or artist information tagged (though the album title itself is). Would y' hoopy GOG fellows be so good as to spiffy up those tunes to be kindly t' media players?
