4X the hell out of the Universe!

Master of Orion Series, the landmark Sci-Fi turn-based strategy trilogy, is available 70% off today on GOG.com. That's only $4.78 for all three classic titles coming in two packs: Master of Orion 1+2 and Master of Orion 3. Alternatively, you can get them separately 60% off.

It is the human ambition to reach for the stars. But what do you do, once you've reached for them? Well, you grab them. And you squeeze them. You squeeze them hard enough to drain all resources. Then, you go on and build a galactic empire, conquering and crushing all other species that came up with the same idea. The goal here is peace and prosperity, of course. Peace and prosperity for the victors, that is. All that translates brilliantly into a strategy computer game. You explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate--the simple pattern followed by many a turn-based classic. Master of Orion Series is one of the first, and best, examples of 4X gameplay. If you are a strategy fan, but don't have it in your collection yet, here's your best chance to correct that.

Prepare for countless hours of multi-layered, complex, and challenging strategic gameplay! Grab the whole Master of Orion Series on GOG.com. If you already have one of the titles in your collection, you can get the other with the larger discount rate. The offer lasts until Tuesday, November 26, at 10:59AM GMT.
Are these worth it? I'm a big fan of GalCiv2 and 4X in general and I've heard these were cream of the crop. Are they near Alpha Centuri levels of amazingness?
MoO2 was one of my favourite games when I was younger. It's kinda complex, but really not that much. I'd say the lower difficulties should make this enjoyable for everyone who's interested. It's just too much fun conquering the galaxy (or gettin beaten up trying ^^)!

I haven't played MoO3 myself, but that's because it was met with such (comprehensible) negativity that I stayed the hell away from it.

Bro, Master of Orion is the grand daddy of the entire 4X space genre. In fact I believe the term "4X" came from the MoO designer.
All i can say is buy it you wont regret it.
I've avoided it for years due to the bad reputation. Ok I'll buy for $3 and find out how bad it is

HiPhish: Every time I see master of Orion on GOG I'm like "Hmm, Master of Orion, people say it's really good, I should check it out". Then i see the screenshots, throw my arms up in the air and start running in circles screaming. I own Master of Magic and still can't figure out how to play it, no way I'm getting this game.
I never played MoM or MoO back in the days, but I really enjoyed MoO when I played it earlier this year.
MoM I had more problems with since I couldn't help comparing it to my beloved AoW games.
I need to break down and try it. Somehow.
This is my chance to get MoO3
Great discount. This would be my chance to get MoO 3 just for the fun of it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.Those of you who didn't get the earlier games (MoO 2 in particular), now is your chance to experience one of the best, most unique TBS gameplay experiences ever!

Pretty much this. I just have to know.

ditto
I see what you're doing GOG. You're bundling games with poor reviews in with games in the same series that have great reviews in hopes that OCD completionists won't be able to keep themselves from "completing the set" despite having no real intention of playing these games that they don't really care about. I won't be fooled! *clutches wallet protectively*

P.S. I already own MoO 1+2, and see no value in picking up MoO 3. It ought to be included for free with MoO 1+2 or something, as it has terrible reviews (although the top review is a hilarious read).

I heard that the fan mods actually make it a pretty good game. I bought it on a promo a while back, but haven't had the time to play around with it yet.

I'm getting all three, never played any of them. If I don't like them I will have no other option but than to blame you people and thus be forced to resign myself form posting in this forum for at least two minutes.

timppu: (Barely played MOO2, but I don't recall seeing any tutorial in it either.)
Right click on just about anything brings up some really helpful tooltips. Also there's a big huge button in the map screen called INFO.
