In the history of gaming there has never been a hero as persistant as Larry Laffer. Over the course of 7 games--scratch that, 6! Larry 4 is just a myth--the wannabe womanizer worked his disputable charm on innumerous women and got shot down more times than a kid spending his summer vacation playing Galaga in the arcade. Yet, he always bounced back and never lost faith in the true love that lasts for a whole night. You can follow his legend from the very beginning, to all of the brief happy endings.

The classic Leisure Suit Larry series, offered today on GOG.com includes, 9 games in total. That's Larry 1 in both original and VGA version, Larry 2, Larry 3, skip one, Larry 5, Larry 6, Larry 7, Magna Cum Laude (starring Larry Lovage, our hero's nephew and close follower), and finally The Soft Porn adventure, the naughty spiritual predecessor to the entire series. That's all the hot action and puns you could possibly handle, promise!

Get the maximum available discount of 65% on the Leisure Suit Larry series promo--grab all the three titles (9 games in total) for just $7.37! As usually, any game you own counts towards the discount rate. The promo lasts until Tuesday, September 17, at 9:59AM GMT.

tinyE: Great deal but I don't think ANYTHING is cheaper than polyester.

BTW Fun Fact: Fingernail polish remover melts polyester; try it.
I know! Had so much fun at school. :-D
I didn't have Magna Cum Laude so bought it just for the hell of it. GOG birthday celebrations, while I don't have anything in polyester, in keeping with the spirit of the Birthday celebrations and Leisure Suit Larry, I'll wear my birthday suit. Thankfully I have no webcam on this PC to share this inspired lack of attire.
Very nice.

PaterAlf: For $2 I will even give Magna Cum Laude a try.
Pretty much my attitude as well!

Stooner: snip

FiatLux: Before you play the roulette then don't forget to place "Leisure Suit Larry In the land of the lounge lizards Reloaded" on the table too - that is missing from the promo....
avatar
Stooner: My guess is that because today is the "Classic Gem Promo"
Or maybe because of different publishers?

Not mine. I wouldn't even try it as a freebie.
Alright, someone try to upsell this promo to me. I haven't ever played any Leisure Suit Larry games, ever. Is it more perverted, or more comical? I don't mind something a little risqué or dirty, but I always got the impression these games were simply meant to be dirty all around.

That said, still try to tell me why I should play these games :) And yes, I do greatly enjoy point and click adventures.

A few questions though:

Is there dating or relationship elements, or just one night stands and flings?
Is there alternate endings, or does every path lead to the same result?
Is the main purpose solely to get in girls pants?
Are the puzzles difficult?

My understanding is it's much more comical. EDIT: But if you're somewhat offended, these games may not be for you.

I'd suggest taking a peek at some YouTube gameplay.

just purchased greatest hits and misses. never played these games before. i caved and tried love for sail earlier this summer and can't remember laughing so hard playing a video game.
Much love for LSL. Finally I can get MCL on the cheap. Thxs GOG.
I gotta say it, MCM, while not as horrible game I remembered it, is rather boring on the long run. Rather monotonious game play really do ruin the game.

I think it's worth $2 though.
Now is as good a time as any for me to complete this unforgettable franchise. Let the good times roll.

jamyskis: I'm not buying the original bundle due to the fact that TET is still mischievously hiding LSL 4 in his desk drawer and the bundle is incomplete without it.

(Just kidding, for those that don't get the joke)

TheEnigmaticT: I have all of the copies of LSL 4; I also have a bunch of Atari cartridges of something called ET? Man, there's a lot of weird stuff in this drawer...
Indeed, and while you are at it, do you have all the original copies of Tempest for the 2600?
Or maybe you are hiding all of them in the coin slots of your original Polybius Stand-up arcade game?

Look, LSL is a series that was created while Sierra was running hot with all the Quest series. When LSL came out, if you were playing serious games then you were playing King's Quest, or Space Quest (I think Police Quest was also around). If you were into even more hardcore gaming experience (time wise) there was always the Ultima series.

Then the folks at Sierra had a weird flash of greatness, "hey let's make a series in the same vein as the Quest games but make it raunchy and goofy so that teens want to play it". And that is really what created Larry and his escapades. They basically took the elements of what made King's and Space Quest awesome and shoved it into a raunchy, silly scheme made of gags and silly stuff.

You have to understand that we are talking about an era where you would be sneaking to take a peek at your dad's hidden Playboy stash. An era defined by a movie like Porky's were Boobs defined awesomeness. So that is what LSL is.

I played every game from that and the other series as they came out. Regarding LSL, it was always funny quirky. The series is funny stupid but in a good sense. In a fun sense.

I am a nostalgic buyer, someone who played them all way-back-when. It is always difficult to recommend a game that you love for nostalgic reasons. But it is what it is, anyone nostalgic about the series will have bought all of them, and those curious about it, might just be fellow pervs (yes, I have no problem identifying myself as a perv :P )

The best moments of Larry's adventures are the romp with Captain Thygh and that girl with the laptop by the pool with that stupid ass freakin leaf that you had to remove to see a nipple. Yes, that defines LSL.

As far as Magna Cum Laude which so many deride. The way I see it, is that is it the culmination of a series that promised you to ultimately show you boobs and more. That is the nostalgic part of it. MCL went all the way and finalized the series in a way the previous games couldn't. And yeah, I did hate those idiotic minigames.

But look, with MCL you can download both the finished game save game and total nude mod and you are set. Why? Simply because it brings closure to this entire series.

Awesome game, awesome fun, you can find an end game save and the mod (real full nude unlike partial nude) online if you can navigate the net well enough.

Great series, great fun, but either you are nostalgic for it or a member of perv country, otherwise, doesn't make much sense.
