Ghorpm: For a moment I was confused too, but then I realized that Jade Empire was in the EA Exclusives promo and at the same time we had Bard's Tale gem promo and I mixed those two. Perhaps you had the same problem?
Possibly .
Aw, the flying arcade shooter part is crazy hard for me.
I love GOG and try to bias towards buying games here first, but I picked this up on Steam over a year ago for only $3.74. This isn't a very good deal in comparison, unless the extras add value for you.

You are essentially comparing apples to oranges here, and complaining that apples aren't really very good because they don't taste like oranges.

You bought it on Steam (with Steam DRM), on sale at $3.74. This isn't its base price on Steam, it's a sale price.
It is now being offered here (with no DRM), on sale at $5.99. This also isn't its base price on GoG, it's a sale price.

I'm not quite sure how you justify the logic that all sales should be the same in perpetuity, but that is the only way to justify your observation of a lack of value. I see this logic far too often, and frankly all it shows is a bizarre (and apparently growing) sense of entitlement, that has no basis in reality or economics.

The question should not be "are GoG matching the sales discount that Steam placed on the game a year ago?" it should be "Does the discount in this sale represent an adequate reduction in cost, that the game repays itself in entertainment value?" Arguably - especially for those of us who remember that games routinely cost $100 off the shelf only a few years ago - this game represents good value at its non-discounted price.

What's my point? You got the game for cheaper a year ago as a fortuitous buy during a Steam-sale, congratulations, well done for you. Such has literally ZERO bearing on the value of this sale however, and your observation that therefore this sale represents poor value is a false equivalence.

I guess you didn't bother to read the part I said about how Valve is likely to repeat the sale this holiday season, which is coming up fast?

Also, I shop sales because I already have a huge backlog of games, so the sale price is my effective base price. You're just not looking at this from my perspective. You need to understand that as a sale shopper, I would never ever buy a game at a non-discounted price because that would by definition present a low value to me personally.

If the lack of DRM and/or the GOG extras account for 50% more value for you, then go for it. Unlike you, I won't judge. If you like to pay full price for games, then that's your business too. As I said, I really like GOG and prefer to buy here if all things are equal; in my own personal opinion, however, this sale would be a lower value for me. You are free to disagree, but that does not make my opinion invalid, nor does it mean I have some sense of entitlement.

Nirth: Great game! Some tweaks: Jade Empire PCGamingWik including unlocking FPS, widescreen and how to avoid a stutter effect.

A mod post.

You can also use SweetFX for some nice graphical improvements, here's an example: Jade Empire SweetFX by Omnipotus
You should have quoted me otherwise I might not have seen this! Thank you :)
Seems like a great game, but I already bought my copy a while back, during another promo, I think. ( Some RPG themed promo? ) Anyhow, just need to get around to actually download the thing, which is going to take forever on my connection. Not really complaining, though -- seems like a good ( and big ) game, at a very affordable price.
I totally add my voice to being a great game and at $5.99 its certainly worth trying. The only issue for me is I already have a hard copy with all the extras so not interested in spending $6 to have it in my GOG collection and certainly GOG doesn't need my charity :)
Very nice game. Already have it, though, both a retail version and from GOG. It's like an almost child friendly version of Mass Effect. :D I considered the ending quite of a letdown and was disappointed that (unlike KotOR and Mass Effect) it only allows you to pick one companion at a time. Aside from that the game is pretty darn awesome.
Darn, just missed it for 1 minute... :( It's full price now...

Better wake up early next time...
