PMIK: Watching your elves get killed in the most random ways is half the fun.
I remember when my cousin and I first discovered Gobliiins 1. Whenever we entered a new screen We would save, then try every possible way we could think of getting our characters killed. That would eventually lead us to solve the screen's puzzle as well. After we tired of those deaths we would load, solve the puzzle and proceed to a new screen. By the time we entered the third screen we were hooked. We had to continue until the end.

gandalf.nho: Looks interesting, but I don't like hard games
Goblins 1 isn't hard. Give it a try.
Goblins2 is hard as nails and I probably would never finish it without a walkthrough, tho.
Goblins 3 is moderate, but it has a few spots where it can get you stuck. This game innovates with a hint system where you can ask for hints a limited number of times. If it isn't enough... well that's why gamefaqs exists. :)

tinyE: I have NEVR heard of these. I also am not one for hard games but is it frustratingly hard? Abe's Exodus is hard but you can keep going back and working at it until you get it right so it's doable. If on the other hand I have to keep starting from scratch if I die halfway through a game, that's a different matter.

Anyone know anything about this?

Also I think that box shot should be advertised as a bunch of us hanging out at a GOG get together, but that's for another thread. :P

Leroux: The puzzles are usually restricted to a few screens only, so to my knowledge there is no serious backtracking or having to start over. In the first Gobliiins, you can die IIRC, but you don't lose much progress by dying as the game is split into very short levels/screen( sequence)s and uses passwords to access them (you may want to write them down though).

The focus of the games is on puzzles, not action, and the gameplay is mostly trial and error adventure gaming, clicking here and there and seeing what happens (often bad stuff with funny animations, until you get it right), so the only frustrating part would be if you really hate this approach or if you get stuck because you don't know what to do. There are one or two screens when timing becomes important, but they're not frustratingly hard, as far as I recall.
Thanks. This normally isn't my genre but it just looks like something I could have fun with when I'm just kicking back.

What Leroux said. (Except I don't remember a password system, I thought we used save games. Whatever.)
Anyway, you lose very little time when you die on Goblins 1. On the other two games you don't have a life bar anymore, so even failed actions don't kill you and all that remains is your character cursing at the player for the pain he's gone through.
Aww, this was my first purchase here, and the main reason I created an account at GOG to begin with. I believe these games were also the very first point-and-click adventure games I've ever played. Nice to see them on sale.

Telika: WARNING : THIS IS THE FULLY CENSORED VERSION, GOG-ENDORSED OPPRESSION WILL RUIN YOUR WHOLE EXPERIENCE.
What are the differences? Can it be patched out like Fallout?

Sooo, this is a DotEmu title. Is there any anger being pushed upon them?
Never ever heard about this game. Seems like a cute kiddie adventure game from way back when.

That may be a misleading impression. The game is pretty brutal, difficulty-wise, and the humour can be a bit rough if I remember well.

Also : goblin tits.

Actually, let's put it this way : it's one of the 2 or 3 only games that even GOG, who sells carmageddon and postal, DOESN'T DARE TO OFFER IN ITS UNCENSORED VERSION. DOESN'T IT MAKE YOU THINK !?

Wow, I was totally fooled by this one. Seems so cutsie on those still images in the press release. Yikes.

(actually, before you buy, i'm exaggerating a bit myself. but without being real hardcore and gruesome, it's still not really a kiddie game. i don't remember precisely the jokes contents, and their levels of political uncorrectness - it was still far from sam&max, and my gripe with censorship is more about how it's a meaningless detail -futile to censor- rather than an important content element... but i wouldn't classify it as a kiddie game. do ask some other people's opinions on that...)
Honest truth, I can live without nudity in games. So the censored version of Gobliiins is fine as it does not ruin the game itself, though it hardly makes it child friendly anyway.

It's that foot in the door thing, when you become cool with some sort of censorship that seems small, just tiny, then some more crap can be piled on top.

I'd rather there be none of that censorship, no matter what insignificant detail gets censored out. Or at least 2 versions should become available - the original and the cut version for whoever deems it to be more appropriate.

Are you sure it doesn't have to do with rights' issues? It may not be worth the time and money to try to make sure that bringing the uncensored version here doesn't give anyone room to sue GOG (however silly that would be). We already have boobies here with Leisure Suit Larry, Fahrenheit (I assume), and probably others.

I'd talk to DotEmu about this, mate. Afaik, GOG is simply selling what they've provided.
