The chronicles of the Wormhole War.

Conquest: Frontier Wars, a refined deep space RTS that will have you not only fight for domination among the stars, but also manage and defend the territories you've conquered, is available on 60% off today, on GOG.com. That's only $2.39 for the next 24 hours!

The creation of wormhole technology was thought to be the biggest thing in human history. We thought that opening gateways to the distant corners of our galaxy would mean access to unlimited supplies and planets to settle for the human race. Science crews, mining rigs, colony ships--all were standing by, ready to launch in all directions. We were ready to make the galaxy our own. The galaxy, however, was not ready to accept us as its masters. We were prepared for colonisation, it turned out we should have prepared for war. The insectoid Mantis and the Celaerans, made from pure energy, readily stood in our way to glory. Of course, that wouldn't stop us for long.

Conquest: Frontier Wars isn't your typical space-warfare RTS. It offers many original features that make it a unique experience that can be enjoyed by newcomers and hardcore fans of the genre alike. You'll have up to six AI fleet admirals under your command, that will do whatever it takes to carry out your orders when you can't participate in the ongoing campaign personally. And that's going to happen a lot, as the wormhole mechanics that connect different sectors of the galaxy, can force you to manage up to sixteen territories simultaneously. You'll have to pay attention to the smallest detail, even taking care of the supply lines for your outposts. All that, of course, on top of satisfying real-time space battles. MP3 soundtrack included!

Conquer the new frontier, spanning across the entire galaxy, crush the alien races under your heavy terran boot, and forge a Human Empire that will last for millenia in Conquest: Frontier Wars, for only $2.39 on GOG.com! The 60% off discount offer lasts until Tuesday, December 10, at 10:59AM GMT.

Petrell: I don't think any individual would be proficient to make use of the code.
The Bear's Pit would like to object. While I haven't read this code, it should be possible to add and modify it for game functionality, but I wouldn't have that much hope for changing the graphics system (resolution changes should be possible). But again, it will probably require a bit of cleaning up. If you can get the code, drop it in a new installation of Visual Studio and compile it, you should be good to go.

Mr_GeO: All right, thanks JMich.
Non-commercial use only. So, no making myself filthy rich with new and epic space RTS... But if you think about it, this limitation it's not a bad thing - at least we are safe from COD style money leechers trying to get your bucks for the same thing over and over again.
In the topic in official forums I linked earlier, dev seemed open to licensing the code for 3rd party for commercial release. You'd have to get to an agreement and pay them for the license obviously.

So you can dump the C:FW source code into public repository and let anyone fiddle? I'm still unsure about that part after reading the readme and license.

Yes. See part 2 again. You can modify and distribute the program, but only in a non-commercial way. Not sure where that puts GOG, and if the package they sell is considered something different, you should probably ask the developers themselves.

Hey, they actually added it! I didn't think they were going to, given my rather awkward discussion on the Facebook page LONG ago.
So between this one and Haegemonia, which one would you recommend to a Sci-Fi loving, RTS novice? Easier game and better story is a plus. Normally not even an RTS player, but the Sci-Fi settings sound pretty good.
Is there a random map generator for skirmish maps that I can play coop against the computer with a friend?
Oh man...
I searched for this game for years now. Over 10 years ago, I played a demo of it and liked it quite much, but never bought it. Years later when I thought about a new RTS game to play, I remembered this game. Unfortunately I forgot its name and I couldn't find it anymore.
I've been eying this one, but I'll have to pass yet again because I really need to curb my spending. Besides, as far as conquest games go, my heart will always belong to Spaceward, Ho! 4.0.
Been waiting on this one since it released here. Thanks!

JMich: Aha! A repeat!

Source code is a very welcome bonus :D
Interesting. Didn't realize it had already been on promo.

It's hard to say. They're both kind of rough around the edges. Conquest has more micromangement in battles and a story driven by named heroes. Haegemonia is more like Imperium Galactica, where you start with a very small force and eventually fight over several connected star systems. Haegemonia will give you a map and a few planets to colonize, along with a known or unknown threat, then open up new areas and enemy factions when you've dealt with those.

Haegemonia is a fiddly 4X. Conquest is a traditional RTS in 2D space with planets to fight over and build on.

Thanks for your reply, I'll keep that in mind. But these games are rather low on my priority list, so I'll take a look at some "let's play" vids when I have to decide! =)
