What is this madness, is this true? for the love of all things tell me it is.

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/05/all-witcher-2-dlc-will-be-free-developer-assures/

Does this include the Preorder DLCs? will they also be released at a later date or what?

if so, this is amazing. There hasnt been a game with All free DLC since morrowind. and that was before the term DLC even existed
It's specifically mentioned that the pre-order DLC doesn't fall under that statement (although in a roundabout manner) and only the tiny DLCs will be free. They're already covering their bases by mentioning that there might be DLC coming which they'll call 'expansion packs' that will still cost money.

Or, expansion packs could be what they always are. HUGE content additions sold retail which make up their own game :P ANd considering how awesome CDProject is, thats what id expect

No.

Yes, but they also say that these expansion packs are likely to be sold in boxes, like old-fashioned expansions, too :-)

lukipela: I am ok with this. I will pay for expansion packs. I will not pay for an extra character.
Pretty much.

Small little DLCs like Horse Armor should be free, and most of the hate I see toward DLC is aimed at stuff like that costing money. Real expansion packs or "mini-expansions" like Fallout 3's DLC or Mass Effect 2's Shadowbroker and Overlord missions can and should cost money though, and are worth it usually.

I'm all for The Witcher 2 following this model.

This. Never once felt short changed by the DLC for Fallout 3/NV or Mass Effect 2. If The Witcher 2 wants to sell high quality DLC that amounts to hours of extra game then that's fine by me.

Horse Armor, Item Packs, Gifts and costumes can take a running jump.
Bioware rolls over in it grave as CDProjekt places it steel toe boot on its neck and applies pressure until dead.

That would be cool. We shall see. If the PC sales numbers are really good (like 2 million optimally) and then the console port is also a hit then Bioware will surely look like idiots.

It's not really like that though. BioWare have effectively abandoned the RPG market as unprofitable leaving it open for someone like CDPR to come in and exploit it. It remains to be seen if BioWare will ever make a proper RPG again but it's unlikely. The only competition The Witcher 2 really has is Elder Scrolls V and that's months away.

I also have some hope for DS3 (Coming soon) and really want Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning to be great considering the talent pool working on it. What worries me is that by November (7 Month away) everyone will be done with the Witcher 2 and Skyrim will be the new game with all the excitement and take RPG of the year - sort of by default.

Skyrim will have the advantage of being multi-platform so that alone will be a huge help in getting GOTY. I have no doubt that The Witcher 2 will do very well but as we know the PC is unfashionable with gaming media so the chances of a PC exclusive becoming GOTY is highly unlikely if not impossible.
I'd be happy to see a proper classic Expansion Pack(though I'd hope it would be sold through GOG or the game's launcher somehow). I miss the gigantic packs that contain an entire new nation(albeit at a half or third the size of the last game).
