Gilozard: And that's a reason to play with the original engine.
avatar
LiefLayer: no. that's a reason to use OpenMW and get rid of that bugged engine
Are you so incapable of understanding someone else's perspective that you can't realize that having to edit and 'fix' all the incompatible mods is a huge hassle and a good reason to use an engine that's compatible with them? Really?

bram1253: Its fully playable, I have been playing for like a week now and haven't encountered a single bug yet.
In fact I read it has less bugs than the original Morrowind.

Also I haven't seen any missing features.
Maybe the only thing that is lacking are the mod tools.
Oh, that is so good to know. Thank you for telling us.
OpenMW is quite the valiant effort. Hurrah for their work! :-)

LiefLayer: Like I said I don't use mods. I played Morrowind with only a translation mod for my language.
but like I said there is no way to get better performance with just mods. You can modify the graphics with a mod (and you can use mods with OpenMW too if you want and if they are compatible with the new engine... ), but the only way to get better performance is to get a new engine.
Listen, you said you do not use mods. In other words: You don't know what you're talking about. So, please don't mislead people with your uneducated opinion. There's no guarantee that you currently get better performance on specific hardware you might have and possibly the FPS optimizer is a better choice.

I tried some mods... I just don't like to play with mods.
Just try and you will understand... there is almost no loading time in OpenMW, while if you use Morrowind there are lots of loading time (even when you change zone).
And just try the difference between swim in Morrowind and in OpenMW.

I have been using nothing else than OpenMW for quite some time because I'm on Linux.

version?
if you tried 0.39 and you still think mods are better I don't agree with you.
if you tried 0.36 just try 0.39, it is much better.

LiefLayer: snip
I know, I know. My install gets automatically updated with every new release.

What's the difference in swimming between OpenMW and the original Morrowind?

Thanks.
I like the clearer OpenMW water.

MW + MCP + MGE > OpenMW

Multi-OS support, reduced loading times, and better swimming are nice, but if its devs want OpenMW to be a better alternative, it needs two things:

1. Compatibility with all mods, including built-in support for all MWSE and MWE functions.

- Or at least the ability to use both extenders with OpenMW.

2. The ability to add scripted effects to spells.

- To the best of my knowledge, scripted spell effects in Morrowind can only be accomplished by "script polling" (a poor method). Support for Oblivion-style scripted spell effects would be a very compelling reason to switch to OpenMW.

If they can do these two things, I'd switch over without hesitation.

Just a coventional (MS/Mac) OS user, but I must tell you that Morrowind is worth any!

Both Planescape Torment and Dragon Age 2 qualify for gaming storytelling without par to me - but still today (IMO) in terms of world-telling, there is only Morrowind.
