UI improvements and better controller support, among others.

The sprawling space sim X Rebirth just got updated with a whole bunch of quality of life improvements and fixes. To celebrate, the game is 75% off while all previous entries in the series are 50% off until December 13, 2PM UTC.

Here are some of the things that got tweaked:

- An all-new quick menu was added.
- It's now possible to target-tock using a gamepad
- Zoom buttons added to the map
- AI fight/free behavior got improved
- Ability menu now looks better
- Several fixes

For a more detailed look at all the improvements brought by the 4.30 update, check out this changelog.

WinterSnowfall: ... and by the way, X3: Terran War Pack also got patched with minor graphical compatibility and performance improvements. Only the updated Windows installers are available for now, but I'm hoping we'll soon get the new Mac/Linux versions as well.
Can you let me know, when they will get updated? Considering I will buy it now after changes...

Just keep an eye on this thread. muntdefems and his little_helper will flag the changes once the installers are there.

Oh and btw, you can also get a copy from me (I still have one available), if you're willing to write a "captain's log" entry of your play-through. More details here.
Recommended 12GB or RAM.... that is quite a lot unless your computer is from the last two years.

ssokolow: I still haven't had time to enjoy the other X games and it hasn't reached my $5 US collection/impulse-buying threshold, so I'll wait.

It seems to come on sale at 75%-off at least twice yearly, so I'm not too concerned. (Given how far the growth of my entertainment collection has outstripped my ability to consume it, I no longer fret over "what if it gets pulled from DRM-free distribution before I can buy it?".)
I did CTRL+F, your post is the only one with the word "wait". I also searched isthereanydeal.com, and today's price is the cheapest it has ever been at gog.com for the complete edition, although someone mentioned here that Steam has the "collector" edition with more goodies that GOG doesn't have. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to wait or not.

It says 8 GB RAM. The 12 GB is for hard drive storage space.
Has the Linux version of X-Rebirth been updated?

I know it can take a bit longer for the Linux version to appear, I just hope we won't be left behind.

Currently an "Internal Server Error" error page, but it looks like it was added to the sticky thread in the GOG forum:

Couldn't resist the price. Had to go with the Complete Edition. Some of the screenshots remind me of Freelancer, which I love. Can't wait to give this a go..

I was looking at the base game because, at $7.50 US when discounted to 75% off, it's the only thing close enough to my $5 threshold to be something I'd even consider buying right now.

(Even without games like Endless Sky and OpenTTD which evoke a Minecraft-esque obsession in me, I already own the other X games, Freelancer, Tachyon: The Fringe, etc. and have plenty of play left in those. I have nothing even resembling an immediate need for games in the genre.)

blotunga: It was updated.
It wasn't:
CLASSIC GAME INSTALLERS OS: LINUX
X3: Terran War Pack 3.3

Can someone who owns rebirth please check whether the Linux version is on par with the Windows version?

AH yes, Windows and Mac are late.

Those are great recommendations, thank you. I was just looking at "Distant Worlds: Universe", and it appears "Endless Sky" is a free clone of it. That sure beats $20 for a 4 year old game. I might be able to restrain myself from buying too many GOG games now, haha. I spend more time shopping for them and reading reviews than actually playing them.

I really should wait for the price to come down, since I have already bought more games than I would ever have in 5 lifetimes before I found GOG. My wishlist has almost 300 games in it, and I would probably buy at least 10% of them immediately if they were below $2 each like most of the games I have bought so far. I must say, I have really enjoyed being a GOG customer, and they are very good at separating me from my money, haha :)

Do you have any other suggestions for free or cheap games? Maybe some convenient lists to explore?

EDIT: There is nothing wrong with my post. The bad formatting is because GOG's choice for forum software is total trash. They should just get real forum software like SMF and be done with it.

EDIT: Used ssokolow's workaround for GOG forum retardedness, so my post is at least readable now.
