We'd like to inform you that on October 17th, 1pm UTC, Windward will be delisted from our catalog.

Those who already own the game, or will purchase it before its removal, will still be able to access it through their GOG.COM Library.
Well, I was planning to eventually buy it. Judging from the reviews it looks like the game's dead and finished.
I never heard anything about the game lacking updates, so I'm surprised it's leaving. Do I smell a total overhaul, and the developer is simply no longer willing to sell it on GOG?

Now this is a notice that is actually useful and at least a bit ahead of the actual delisting.

Good job.

Well, the dev is working on Windward 2 so I doubt there will be an overhaul of the first game. Only thing I can think of is the dev might be planning to shut down multiplayer servers for Windward and focusing resources on Windward 2. I would suspect this if the game was removed from Steam as well.

Dunno, hopefully the dev says something.

Thank you for the info. Might go and grab it since it is a really fun game ;). Cheers
Why is this happening?
Looking around on discord and elsewhere, apparently the main dev doesn't get along with GoG. The devs are also unhappy that the most pirated version is the GoG version (seems like the devs can tell if the GoG or Steam version connects to their servers).

Not sure why removing it now would do anything. It's been a couple years since the last update. It's already out there.

[EDIT] Digging deeper on discord... yikes! Less about piracy and more about how GoG handles paying the devs - apparently it's less of a hassle to remove the game from GoG than trying to get them to pay you. He just does not like GoG, at all.

Perhaps they do as some CC/debit companies/banks do and don't pay devs until a certain period has ended(quarterly/monthly/etc)?

It'd be very petty for a developer to whine about that since they had to know how it works as they were going in.

I don't believe this is it. And why would it be a problem now, all of a sudden, after the game's been on the store for years?

I wouldn't be surprised if it were more like having to beg GOG for someone to manually do the payment.

The same way we have to beg GOG to update the offline installers. And then beg again because they conveniently forgot to update the Linux installers or whatever.

Something about requiring invoices everytime you get paid where most stores will just deposit money into an account. I know GoG streamlined a bunch of stuff regarding their operations so maybe they made that easier too - but GoG has always been terrible at communicating with... well, anyone. Or GoG just sticks with some archaic method - neither would surprise me.

The dev sells 2 copies a month on GoG. Personally I would go for $30 a month for a game no longer in active development - hey, it's beer money! But that's me - I can't fault the dev at this point.

Smaller devs might need the money more quickly, and they might have been locked in a contract for x years.

You could also be right, though, but i'd assume gog wouldn't just manually cut checks and would have it setup to be more automated.....but then again, knowing gog.....

I really don't believe that GoG would require an invoice from the company for this function. That makes no sense whatsoever. Something tells me he's not telling the whole story on that cause no business that collects sales as a digital distributor functions that way.

I read the guys comments on discord and he comes across as incredibly whiny and a little out of touch with reality.
