I have been using a computer with Windows 8.1, and bought quite a few games that run on Windows 8.1, I just bought a new computer with Windows 10 - if a game on GOG.com says it runs on XP through Windwos 8, will they work on Windows 10? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don't know much about this and any help is appreciated!
Each game's page lists which versions of Windows they run on. Some do not work on Windows 10 but you have to review the page yourself to see.

Hope this helps

edit: Example of one game that does not work on Windows 10:

Example of one that does:

Look on the right side under the Game Details section.

I know for Gangsters that google'ing for help with windows 10 will find a couple of solutions so it's still possible. Just not guaranteed.

Depends on the game. The supported OSes is mostly for which OSes GOG will provide support for. Your luck with specific games will vary, but do take a look at the specific game subforum, you should find quite a bit of info.
I read in a recent thread that enabling DirectPlay - via the Control Panel - is a big help in getting stuff to run under Win10. And I do think it solved a problem I was having with one game. To enable it, follow the simple instructions here:

Well, if you buy them here then the game page tells you what os it runs on and what you can get support for. Personally I have yet to find a game which doesn't run on win10. Not saying there are not any, but it's not a massive change from win 7 or 8.x to 10. True, you might need some drivers, or a certain version of c++ extension, or enabling direct play, but most should be runnable. Make sure you install outside windows folders, and check the various pages out there if you have problems: pc gaming wiki, moddb, etc.
Generally: Yes.
No, those compatibility tests and markings in the store pages are just for show. :b

In the poster's defense the reason why I used Gangsters as an example was because that's the one i missed.
