I've discussed Old West / Wild West video games on the forum before, but a quick search didn't show a dedicated thread, so...

... do you have a favorite(s) -- or anticipated -- Wild West game(s)?

ATM I've been thinking about these:

Oregon Trail.

The Feud Wild West Tactics.

This is My Land.

I'd like to see all of these here on GOG. IMO kinda strange that Oregon Trail isn't here already.

For first-person shooters, can't forget Outlaws. This was a brilliant game which came out at during a golden age for FPS PC gaming.

For something around strategy, you've got the Desperados games. Desperados had a 3rd game released recently which I'm yet to play. Looks good from what I've seen so far.

I was surprised how much I did not enjoy Red Dead 2 recently. It was too cumbersome for me to play, too focused on immersion and realism over having fun. Everything just felt like a slow chore to do.

So my favorite wild west game is probably in the Call of Juarez series. Either Bound in Blood or Gunslinger probably, though I haven't played the original in a long time and can't compare it as well. They're all very immersive shooters though with great atmosphere, and Gunslinger is a super fast paced and polished shooter we don't get that often anymore. Really good stuff IMO, and often overlooked.

I haven't played Outlaws since it came out. I liked it, but I tend to prefer a little more in my FPS games than arcade shooting. Never played Gun, maybe one day...
I loved to play Kane on my CPC 464 back in the day.

Western Games had stellar graphics for the time.

Westbank was also an excellent game.

Ahhh, memories!

Yeah, I agree 100%. Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games of all time -- and Old West games one of my favorite genres -- but never finished Red Dead Redemption 2. 3/4's of the way through the game I was just too bored and frustrated to continue.

Just an FYI...

About a year prior to Red Dead Redemption's release, there were rumblings that the game under the Houser Bros. was a disjointed, mechanically cumbersome, a micro-mangement mess (sound familiar?). Leslie Benzies was brought in (one of the Leads from GTA) to "fix" the game... and it seems that he did just that. From leaks Benzies turned the project around 180 degrees! Skip forward to RDR2... and Red Dead Redemption 2 released with a lot of the problems RDR1 had prior to the turnaround. What was missing this time? Leslie Benzies... he had left Rockstar prior to RDR2 development and was in litigation with the company over GTA profits.

Not saying Benzies was a genius, but his absence coincides with the amplification of all of the worst aspects that had been rumored to haunt the early development of RDR1. Too bad.

Yes, I would agree. Gunslinger and Bound in Blood are GREAT Wild West games. I only hope Techland will revisit this series sooner-than-later.
I would recommend Wild Guns Reloaded. Old school shooting gallery action at its finest.

Red Dead Revolver, Red dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2.... Great series.
I agree with the RDR series, 2 really wasn’t great (and I brought a PS4 for it!). Also a vote for call of Juarez (apart from the third one). To add to the list there is Gun, a simple game often overlooked, but great fun.

Yes, GUN is a lot of fun. Too bad it never spawned a series.

Wonder if the IP was picked up in THQ's sale? Didn't see it listed in the titles Nordic / THQ Nordic bought.

*edit*

Well, I could have sworn GUN was a THQ game, but seems it was Activision. Really baffles me why it never saw a 2nd installment since it sold well and got generally positive reviews.

I don't know if they are what you are after but Gunman Chronicles and Spaceward Ho! are a couple of decent sci-fi westerns. The former is a first person shooter and the latter is turn-based strategy.
I liked Mad Dog McCree back in the day when FMV games were a thing.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
Colt Canyon
Desperados 1
Desperados 2
Desperados 3

Oregon Trail 2 was MY JAM many years back. It is essentially a media rich version of Oregon Trail....with actual people recorded on the backgrounds(characters), good music, different paths to follow and lore to read(optionally).

Darkwatch is a nice supernatural themed(think wild west games mixed with Bloodrayne) game, but I believe that one is only on console.
