1. It's not GOG's fault.
2. It's nobody's fault really.

Here is how it works:

In order to confirm that you have these games on Steam, GOG has to go through something called Steam API.

An API is a term that programmers use. It basically means a designated point where you can interact with another system.

In our case Steam allows other people to connect to its servers and grab some information. That information is in the form of text.
GOG is simply getting a formatted text file with a list of games you have on Steam.

BUT!

If everyone tries to interact with a system at once, that can overwhelm and break it. (You probably heard of DDoS attacks on servers.) Because of this, Steam limits the amount of times that other people can call on its API.
This is NOT because Steam is evil, it's a universally accepted good practice and they are absolutely doing the right thing.

Since today's announcement a giant horde of people (including YOU personally) have hit Steam API hard.
It's only natural that there are delays. Don't worry all requests will be fulfilled in due time. Probably fairly soon.

Now that you understand how it works, go and do something else while you wait. No need to hit "reload" every three seconds. That delays it for everyone. Yes, for YOU as well. Also there is no need to make new threads telling everyone that you can't connect. We know that already.

Thank you.

It's Lord Gaben's fault that he saved gaming world singlehandedly.

...

Or no.

I chose support GOG because I love DRM-Free's world.
But yesterday I change my mind.
Because I support DRM-Free so I haven't purchase any Steam's game.
Why can't GOG user get a Steam copy?
it's not fair.
using an old Chinese saying to express my feeling
人不患寡而患不均
Thanks for the info.

I guess there's a concern that GOG Connect games are limited-time offers and the connection process could take days. There's probably nothing GOG can do about this at the moment, but it won't stop users from getting a little antsy.

GOG is doing YOU a FAVOR by giving you something for free. And your greedy little ass is disappointed?

Don't worry. Steam's API is quite robust so I imagine this slowdown will dissipate very soon.

As grateful as I am for you making this thread (heck, if you didn't, I would have), I have a sad feeling that nobody's going to read it.

I think that the only problem with THIS thread spreading the message is that out of around 12 hours, we've gotten maybe only three official messages from GOG reps themselves that I'm aware of.

It's all well and good to say, "We're rolling out the red carpet for you guys," but when the carpet falls short of the expectation that is created by the announcement, integrity is questioned and folks get flustered.

Just a general statement as a person with a few years of management experience. I think the whole idea is grand myself and I'm tickled they've done what they've done to try to implement it.

Pretty much this across the board.

If the games were offered for a longer stretch (a month, or even just a couple of weeks), I don't think people would be as vocal about not getting connected. Instead, the games are available for 5 days, which adds a sense of urgency to get connected before they vanish over the weekend.

Don't worry. It will not take that long.

Look, I understand the frustration that comes with these occasional influxes of large numbers of new users/new posters who don't understand some new feature, or display baffling levels of entitlement, or whatever...but, if you can't weather the storm of ignorant comments without making dickish responses like this in all these various ill-informed threads ("OMG STIM BROUGHT GOG?!"), maybe just step back from posting for a while. It just drags the whole level of civility in the forums down if every other thread devolves into angry personal insults. It's also a good way to ensure that a lot of decent new users/first-time visitors to the forums will never return. (And, for the record, I upvoted your OP.)

Which was sort of the point I was trying to make above; thanks for helping me explain that. :-)

You are right. I guess I was mentally unprepared for the sudden barbarian attack. I'll go read a book or something. =)

Night!

Thanks, Google, that cleared it right up.
So, this explains the redirect failures and token expired messages that keep sending me back to the login page to link the accounts?

Yes.
