Did you ever get the "game gear", their "mobile" device which still took on the game cartridges? I bought one for my wife and she loved it when we went on road trips.

popperik: I'd pick up pretty much every Sonic game instantly ^^
Have Sonic on no less than four platforms now. Originally for my Sega CD, then my Xoom tablet, then my PC and also my OUYA.

Wait, I take that back, *not* on my PC, my other tablet.

I've never understood this. Sega had no problems releasing some of their games on DotEmu (another DRM-free site), so their lack of presence on GOG is a bit of a mystery.

Yes, I certainly remember her constantly requiring batteries. I kept asking, what are you doing to drain them so quickly? Now I know better.

However, the first game system I saved up for and bought was a Sega CD, and it was the old one where you bought the console and CD system separately.

One of the first 'CD' games I played was "Night Trap", which featured Dana Plato, long before she was shamed and ridiculed for her drug habit on the "Howard Stern" show which then led to her suicide immediately thereafter.

Sorry for the morbid story, but that Sega brings up memories. :(

the color screen devoured batteries like a mad yak in heat
thats why the gameboy was peasoup green and it took till 1998 for nintendo to move to color
You should ask them.

I know i would like DRM free versions of Sonic Generations and Space Marine.

The LCD tech got much better over time. Lower power consumption and the "rechargeable" batteries held more of a charge to feed them. It's pretty impressive how much the technology has changed over the past 20 years.
Am I the only one who thinks the Sonic games (or most console games period) don't really work on your average PC monitor? This obviously doesn't apply to those of you who have giant monitors. When I played Sonic as a kid it was at this guy's house who had his Sega hooked up to this huge fucking television, and that was so much of the fun. On a desktop monitor they seem to lose their charm.

Probably that's the best solution, prices for 32x PAL are incredibly high (not to mention about carts with one of the most desired games on this system - Knuckles Chaotix), I really regret that I've started being interested with old 16bit Sega's console so late, because nowadays things like 32X or Mega Cd are really expensive. I couldn't believe when I saw, that for the price of Knuckles Chaotix PAL I could bought Dreamcast in good state with cables... and a couple of games. Yeah, it's THAT expensive. Probably Knuckles Chaotix will be one of my unfullfilled dreams :( (but hey, it's a long list anyway :P)

By the way - I also don't agree with these opinions that 32X was so bad. I could definitelly agree that it's initial price was far too high for add-on to other console and that releasing it so close to the release of Sega Saturn quite quickly killed this unfortunate add-on. But looking on the games, I could tell, that it gave far more impressive effect than most of the games on Sega CD.

Oh, this, awww yisss :) (especially those, which weren't re-released, like Sonic Heroes or Sonic Riders). Although it would be nice with some other Sega games, I still have House of the Dead 2, never found more entertaining "rail-shooter" than this one. And the first Typing of the Dead - oooh, that would be sweet! (once upon a time I've learned with this game to write fast like a madman!)

I didn't experienced such thing, no matter if I've played some old 2D games, or some more "modern" 3D. Probably because my only experience with playing on "big" TV was playing Pegasus (polish bootleg of Famicom/NES, but that was magnificent bootleg, the finest ever :))

Foxhack: Because Sega is stupid and hates money.

No, really. They have loads of games that would fit here, and many are pretty much DRM-Free but again - they're stupid and hate money.

And I say this as someone who's been a fan of theirs for over twenty years.

JDelekto: Being a fan of theirs and being one of their accountants is two different things entirely. They made their app available to the android devices (including the OUYA) so you *could* technically use one of the android emulators out there to play it, if you choose to. However, it would really be cool to play Sonic CD, well heck, even the Super Mario (yes I know it's not SEGA) franchise.

I'd give a little coin to bring back some memories, let's see if they'll bite.
There were recently existing some barriers due to their contract with Nintendo about "exclusivity" of some of their games (that's why for example we never had PC/console version of these enhanced editions of Sonic & Sonic 2 for Android), but in March(April?) this contract was over, so there is something positive. Although as many of you already mentioned, the policy of Sega is, well, rather "money-proof". Which is extremely strange, because they're reselling their old MD games on every possible platform, so why not expending this with new titles and new services (like GOG)?
