After a slight problem with my CC yesterday,I'm seriously thinking about making a Paypal account.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the system? Is it reliable and safe?

Because it's the safest and easiest to use.Used it for years, set up a dummy bank account
deposit and switch money to Paypal.Only drawback is the time it takes to transfer money into
it.

You sent up an account to transfer funds from a bank account. When you make a purchase
using Paypal it's instant.

What is the problem with your CC? It doesn't work at all, or specifically with GOG.com?

I am using a Paypal account with my HumbleBundle purchases, which in turn charges my credit card. Nothing fancy about it, I just need to give my Paypal account password to complete the purchase process in HB. I presume it works similarly in GOG.com. I don't specifically transfer any funds beforehand to Paypal account.

Not sure why I am using Paypal, I think earlier it was the only way to buy from HumbleBundle, or something? I've used it since with them.

I'm a cash or bank person so I don't use credit cards.

One other thing Paypal guarantee to get your money back from a problem seller,
or they will reimburse you.

Me too but the solution is virtual CCs: safe and convenient.

I just transfer money from the bank and have had no problems.
If I wan't money I just use an ATM.
Using paypal enables a second layer of protection.

Let's assume I buy things from Humble. Humble does not deliver my keys. I do chargeback from Paypal. Paypal acknowledges it is a fraud and gives me the money.

If paypal refuses, I simply initiate chargeback from my bank.

I try to use real cash from time to time, but the cashiers frown when they see me opening my wallet and using half a minute looking for some small coins. Then after awhile I get fed up myself and pay with a big bill, and get even more small coins. I drown in coins, soon I could probably open a similar coin vault as Uncle Scrooge, swimming in coins.

Even at our workplace canteen, they are now pushing that people would pay with a smartphone app system to make the cashier lines go faster. Apparently they don't want people to use cash either.

When I go to e.g. Thailand though, I prefer taking cash with me there (a couple thousand euros is usually more than enough for four weeks). I don't trust using a credit card there. I think I've used it once in some thai supermarket, and after that I received a call from the bank (all over from Finland) that someone is trying to use my credit card in Thailand. Duh, yes, it was me. :)

I know what you mean with coins but my wife doesn't have a problem taking them of my hands:-)
Some people have a strange look on their face when I hand over a wad of money.

I use Paypal for all online transactions, its a nice buffer to have between the real world and online activity, I had a problem with a game once (Beamdog Baldurs EE), couldn't run it or something (I forget now), asked Paypal for a refund, got it the next day after they liased with Beamdog and my credit card was refunded the 20€.

Probably my third best bit of PC kit.

Be aware that some (only some) sites will charge you for using a paypal account, BUT those companies also charge you for using a regular credit card too (Paypal charges me nothing|), so check before buying.

As I don't use a credit card,then that's not my alley.I usually transfer from the bank a
fair amount so that I can purchase for a while without worrying about topping it up.

Who cares, let them strange-look-frown-wait, coins are money ;)

The push for emoney has a single purpose: (more) control.
