that's not really honest marketing is it?

I mean if we can create a review, but not edit it, but GOG can edit it, what makes anyone here believe the reviews at all?

simple question.

what if our opinion changed in time?

You can contact Support to get your review changed.

I agree that users should be able to edit their own reviews, but GOG hasn't gotten around to implementing it.
Also, could you imagine the chaos if someone decided to use editing to troll the review system?

1) Post helpful or informative blurb.

2) Receive many "helpful" votes.

3) Change review to something obnoxious, irrelevant or downright insulting.

4) U mad, bro?

One workaround would be a limited-time editing window in which to fix factual mistakes and typos. An hour or two, perhaps.
Purpose is to avoid that users change their review after that game editor sent a check :-)

That or simply resetting the votes when a review is changed, which would be rather radical, but small stuff is usually edited out before a review starts collecting votes, so it wouldn't affect quick edits in the first few hours.
TwoHandedSword is quite correct. Editing reviews without removing the associated upvotes is ohexploitable, and re-validating them is unfeasible. As long as the GOG staff don't mind the extra work, the current setup is optimal.

Starmaker: the current setup is optimal.
No it isn't. For example it would be easy to add the ability to edit at the expense of losing previous votes.

It may be easy, but it's likely at the very bottom of their TO DO list, if at all.
It took GOG how long to sort the "Company" filter alphabetically?

Losing previous upvotes, maybe. Otherwise people would be able to shitpost and discard the downvotes. We have dedicated shitposters on the website today (and I don't mean "people I don't agree with" -- simply users whose apparent goal is to fail the Turing test as hard as possible), no need to empower them further.

Doesn't Steam allow you to edit reviews (I saw people being able to change their reviews from negative to positive and vice-versa..etc..)? If so, it shouldn't be a problem allowing that feature here on GOG. Frankly, I get the feeling people care a lot less about GOG reviews. Steam is where people bother about reading them. And looking at the overall picture, things aren't really that exploited on Steam, so by that token, GOG will be relatively fine.
because the review system on gog sucks... even gog support cannot change the star that you give to a game (you can only change the review).

Example. The Witcher 1 mac version some times ago was an old wineskin port, the performance were really bad... I had to port the game myself with a new port with playonmac using the windows version. I gave 3 stars: good game but terrible performance on mac.
After that they updated it with an eON (almost native) port, with great performance. I had to contact gog just to change the text of my review but there is no way to give 5 stars.

Nicole28: Doesn't Steam allow you to edit reviews.
yes, like any other digital store.
since they can update we can change our mind about a game, it is normal.

Still on steam you need to play at least 15 minutes to review a game, here you can even review a game that you don't own (I'm not against this, both make sense... but I would prefer something like amazon where everyone can review but if you bought something your review say that).
still, what no ones considering is the simple truth in the question.

Should your review be edited by another at all?
Should you not be able to update your review?
your mind changes in time does it not?

for those that say this is optimal are content to not have their say.

the simplest of CVS's have that feature..

Amazons review system isn't really good either.. but at least it is editable by the user and they do not edit your reviews unless they are in bad taste, I will give them that.

Well, one reason is that Steam is swarmed by horrible, cash-grab, asset-flip games; you have to tread carefully just to have a look at good games. There aren't many bad games on GOG, so reading reviews is less of a concern.

if you understood how debt worked you would see that GOG is the exact same..

and the reviews should matter to you, lots of these are ports and not the real game.

should work as advertised.. doesn't always.
advertising changes too..

look at dragons age, it wasn't originally marked "single player" was it?
not till after the "hot-fix".

Possibly. Though I'm not sure what the point of the system is. It's not like reviews are actually graded by users who find them helpful or not. I'd bet that the vast majority of voters aren't actually looking to buy the game based on the review. It's a general thumbs up/down feature, and as such as worth keeping as the forum post rating system (i.e., not worth keeping).
