I already bought the game, so I have no need for another copy.

Who cares if you took it or skipped it. No one.
I already have it. And no, it's not a walking simulator. If you're just going to call anything that has walking in it a walking simulator, then Doom is a walking simulator.

Anyway it's fairly decent. It didn't quite live up to my expectations, but it's better than Myst V. If you're really definitely sure there's a 0% chance you'd ever play a game like this, then go ahead and skip it, but a few of these posts are coming across like some kind of posturing, and it's not a good look.
I don't accept it either, I'm not interested in Myst-like games (doesn't help that the only Myst fan I ever knew in person turned out to be a creep).
I once wasn't too discriminating in accepting freebies, but most of them are only cluttering up my library (even if I hide them) which bothers me. So nowadays I only accept free games that really could be interesting for me.

I accept whatever games I feel like I might play someday. Obduction would be way down on my immense backlog since I'm not really into first person puzzlers of the Myst style, but it's slightly possible that I might feel like playing it someday so...

Dogmaus: I decided not to include Obduction in my library even if it is free, as it would only be clutter. I know I am not interested in anything by Cyan since Myst included, and the size and requirements are redunculous. Who else is not accepting this gift and why?
Do you tend to accept any giveaway or only those that you really want to play?
I like the Cyan games(mostly) so I took it...as for not taking games in general, it'd be if a game was "crap looking" to me or not appealing enough to want to add it to my backlog.
avatar
StarChan: I wouln't include a game just because it was free. If I was certain I was never gonna play it, I wouldn't see the point in adding it to the collection. Free Yiik? Nope. Etc.
Yes, but what if you want it later because you changed your mind? At least if one takes the gifts one can always hide it forever or maybe play it if they change their mind and not have to pay for it.

Tauto: Well,I took it and even made a thread thanking Gog and I think the amazing number of 2 other users thanking Gog for the freebie. And it goes to show how ignorant the snatch and grab mob in here are or just take it for granted and can't even be polite and thank Gog and yet they say how this place is full of nice people.Well,so called good people would it break something by saying thanks Gog.
Many said so in the main sale thread, actually.....always think/check stuff before you post...just my two cents. :)

dtgreene: I'll accept a free game that I'll never download or play, provided it's DRM-free (and I don't have to do extra work, like making an extra account, to claim it).

I consider DRM-encumbered games to have negative value, and therefore I consider free to be too expensive a price for such games.

(Also, it's worth noting that, since DRM-encumbered games have negative value, the combination of a DRM-free copy and a steam key for a game is worth less to me than the DRM-free copy would be alone.)
Me, I always take games as I have no moral qualms with making drm'd games non-drm through ANY means(once legally bought). This also gives me more avenues to buy games from than some have.

I get your moral stance though and support you/others having it and sticking to your principles.

Randalator: I don't grab stuff just because it's free. I don't like Myst so I gave Obduction a pass. Why clutter my library with stuff I don't want and then go through additional steps to hide it essentially restoring the state of affairs before adding it in the first place?
You shouldn't get stuff you don't want, but is hiding it that difficult? I figure it's like a few clicks maximum. :\

omega64: It's a puzzle game, what are you talking about.
avatar
sanscript: You didn't get the " " ? ;)

To me it's a "walking-simulator" with puzzle-elements. Just as boring as Kholat and The Ball. Nothing more.

It started good but it got progressively more boring as the "story" went on.
To be fair many games are "walking sims"...some with shooting or magic casting/swordplay, but many great games involve some amount of walking.

It's still a valid topic for people to discuss.

But you don't talk about it. You are spinning this one and leading it into the off-topic... once more.
Still acting like a little forum hero, heh? :-)
I just now realized, abduction is spelled with an "a". :P

It's like the movie "Memento".
I'm not taking it because I already owned it. The give away did get me to start the game last night though... didn't get far but it does look interesting and I'll be continuing it. So it looks like it will help clear one of the thousands on my back log.

I posted ontopic as my first post. I then replied to other posts....also I am not the only one who is going offtopic.

But feel free to turn this into something about me, if it makes you feel virtuous about yourself....wait, in a way you're trying to make yourself look better/heroic by mokcing my supposed hero complex.....pot calling kettle black much? :p

For future reference for those of you who see a giveaway for a game you already have:
Consider getting it anyways. GOG emails it to you as a gift key. You could then donate it to the Community Giveaway and share it with those who didn't manage to redeem it during the giveaway period.

In that very unlikely event, I would buy the game.

To be really really fair, real life is also a "walking simulator", and most of us can happily choose where and how we want to walk. We even have the choice of what type of ground we want to do it on... unless someone "magically" put you inprison, and then you can also choose to fight bare handed or with a crafted "sword".
