my question comes from ignorance since

i just started with witcher 1 and i got sucked in .Also i been hearing the audiobook of the witcher saga blood of elves ( i know i am very late to the party but still i´m really enjoying the game a lot, and the universe also from the book)

now i don't watch game of thrones, just watched a couple of episodes and it seems that is very good. there´s got to be something with some many fans watching it .
(i spoiled myself all the color weddings because my brother watches the show also and i happened to be there haha )

so, what is best?, in terms of universe, characters, gameplay, etc... well not gameplay
See for yourself

The Witcher novels are better than Game of thrones but then someone made a terrible Movie and a less terrible TV series of The Witcher franchise.
Game of Thrones has been king all the way until this last season. It seems like they ran out of ideas for season 5 and just started recycling everything they did in past seasons. It was like an entire season of filler and a even had a dumb finale (if you can even call it a "finale")

But to get back on track after that tiny rant, Game of Thrones has better lore in my opinion. Haven't tried Witcher 3 yet though
Game of thrones... yeah you know the fans there must be trillions of 'em.
I liked the first season quite a bit. The second season was alright. The third was a bit lame. I never finished the fourth.
Too much riding with nude women, the lack of coherence in the story. But I understand that when I was 14 years probably this would have been my favourite, especially if I had been a loner with no girlfriend who loved to escape into fantasy like I was :D But for a thirty-something who is married, I'd give the first season 9/10 and the rest is pretty much bullshit :D But maybe someone else will just utterly praise it to high heavens, no problemo.
Pro tip: anyone who talks about the Game of Thrones "seasons" doesn't know what they're talking about. Don't compare apples and oranges.

They're both good worlds, with a robust mythology and complicated characters, motivations, and plot. If you really want to get into the gritty parts of the world, Game of Thrones will do you better. If you prefer a more magical fantasy, then you'd be better off with Witcher.

I'd say get the books for both series and enjoy. There's good stuff to be found in both.
A Song of Ice and Fire
A Game of Thrones is the first book in the series called A Song of Ice and Fire, as Randalator pointed out. First three books in the series is some of the best fantasy novels I have ever read, the last two are ok but not quite up to par as the first three. Hopefully Mr. Martin pulls his head out of the clouds and puts another book out soon. And the books are way better than the show, no real comparison.

Hey if nudity is your problem the last couple of seasons have had only a fraction of the nudity that was in the first season.
It all depends on people's tastes unless you are talking about grammar and spelling. :P
I'm into other fiction actually, like harry potter, robert langdon, hunger games and I get a kick out of marvel.
If you are talking about the books then I've enjoyed The Witcher saga more. A Song of Ice and Fire is still unfinished so I can't judge an unfinished book, although the third one is the best and the fourth one the weakest.

If you are talking about the games, The Witcher series all the way and if you are talking about the shows, Game of Thrones.
I like the light tone of the first two Witcher books (short story collections). So called "Witcher Saga" is a much darker. But I haven't yet read most of the books. I read some fan translation to English. I'm not going to judge by that. :) Hopefully the official translation to my language is good enough. The short story collections were very well translated.

When I watched the first two seasons of Game of Thrones I was hooked. So, I got the (first two) books. And I found them extremely hard to read. "Hard" meaning they increasingly became darker and darker (which was much easier to watch than to read). That's kinda in contrast with the beginning. Excluding the part where Ned Stark kills a millitary deserter and Caithlyn's hate for John Snow, the first part is pretty much happy-go-lucky. And then everything goes sour.

And Stanis in the books is easily influenced spoiled brat. In the tv show, he is also a jerk, but not so much.

Anyways, I wouldn't compare. I'd rather switch to Pratchet or Adams. :P Much "lighter" in tone and easier to read. Although the Witcher short stories are pretty ok and not too heavy.
Uhm... I was talking about Stark family story. I think the first book also had other parallel stories. Like Dany's story which is pretty terrible to begin with (the abusive brother, etc, etc). But I think it got introduced later in the book.

Has been some time. Stark story sticked for much longer. :)

Edit
Nah, I'm wrong. It's pretty much dark from the beginning. Just remembered the Bran's story. But it only gets darker. That's the point of my post.

It's difficult to say what is better. They both have their own charm.

TW sage has one central plot, the rescue of a girl, while GoT sage has so many plots I can hardly count them. TW is simply less epic than GoT. GoT is also much longer, but this does not necessarily mean better. Both are very mature.

I'd say they are equal.
