There was an announcement a couple(?) of weeks or so ago saying that if you'd bought certain games elsewhere you can redeem them on GOG and get them added to your library. I've spent the last ten minutes looking for the thread which explains which games are eligible and how it works but can't seem to find it. Has anyone got a link to the thread?

Thanks :)

http://www.gog.com/reclaim Here's the page with all 6 games listed. ;)
http://www.gog.com/reclaim
That was quick - many thanks :) +1 to both of you.
Keep in mind, that link talks about 'boxed copies'. It was intended for retail games. The Stalker series has it's keydatabase mixed with Steam though so it's possible some of those work.

The other games listed there will only work if you have *Russian Language* retail versions.

Thanks for the verification - I couldn't remember which games were eligible and I'd totally missed the *Russian Language* info. +1 too :)
Don't forget that The Witcher games are also redeemable on GOG: https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

And now I'm wondering why both pages are kept independently instead of being joined together into one.

Because the "reclaim" page is valid only for retail keys, while the "Witcher backup" page is valid for every version of Witcher 1 and 2.
Boxed and Steam versions work both. I've activated my SoC and CS retail and tested if my CoP on Steam works, too. It did.

But you can also migrate any Witcher games from Steam to GoG if you want (at least the first and second game).

Only that's not true. There's always a chance the key you got on Steam (or possibly any other distributor) works on GOG as well. My Steam key for SoC certainly worked.
Correcting some bad info. The USA retail hard copy had a key as well and that can also be used.

Another side note: The keys that do NOT work could have been victim of key generators and as such will not give you your redeem code even if you bought it legit. Yeah...that would kinda suck >_>

You said it yourself; a chance. They don't guarantee you that it will definitely work. Just check the "reclaim" thread to see how many people reported that they were unable to redeem their S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games from Steam. For Witcher 1+2, though? They definitely guarantee redemption, to the point that if it doesn't work (as some people have reported this as being the case with the first Witcher), that they can contact support to resolve it for them.

You said it's "only valid for retail keys", though. You are right about the other stuff of course but then again, they also don't guarantee that each and every retail release is redeemable there. Ultimately it's just a case of "may or may not work". :p
