Why did they move them again? In my game collection under "More" drop-down there are no longer GOG Downloader links option. For players who don't have fast Internet downloading it all in one go is a no-option, and I don't want to even try GOG Galaxy... GOG let us download and play games we purchase without some client or Steam-like crap, and that's why we all love them no doubt. And as long as they don't become just another Steam, I'll be buying games from GOG. But games will only grow larger in size so we need GOG downloader links for some 5+ GB file sizes. Please, is there a secret URL to access them?

That is to say, it's dead. More specifically, it's been dead for 5 years but they only just decided to bury it.

Yeah, that was the only way I DLed my Gog games If I wanted to use steamlike features I would use Steam. Galaxy is not what I want nor do I consider it an option in my case. Maybe I should see if I can use Jdownloader or another manager for now.
Thank you. I dunno why searching forum with "GOG Downloader" didn't yield any results. Maybe it was case-sensitive.

I don't mind not using downloader for games that aren't too big (like old DOS games), but for larger one, it was a real life saver since it takes me about an hour to download 1GB at my current speed.

I may be forced to give GOG Galaxy a try... I read somewhere there's an archive option from it which makes the same thing as if the game was downloaded via GOG Downloader. I know it's cool to promote new features, but there's really no good reason why legacy options wouldn't be available for people who don't want to move to new thing at all or just yet.

Yeah, definitely won't be buying any new titles with heavy download from GOG, but for smaller ones they're still great. Maybe they won't lose many people by doing this, but it's a shame that they'll lose traffic and money if even from a smaller part of audience.

Why remove a good feature everybody loves just to promote new feature nobody who used GOG downloader cares about. Too bad :(

Note: other Dl managers still work, I've just tried Downthemall & have successfully used it (though it i now need to create the individual game folders now to keep the setup files) but it's still closer to the experience I expect shopping here than using galaxy.
GOG Downloader is dead.
Dead’s dead baby.

Use browser downloads, simple, can choose what software you use.

Have you noticed if you got the downloaded filenames correctly using Downthemall?

I installed the add-on on Firefox, and when I download games from my GOG library it gets the installer part filenames messed up.

e.g. If a game installer has the following parts
game_name.exe
game_name-1.bin
game_name-2.bin

Downthemall downloads the .exe fine, but the rest of the parts are named something like "en1installer1" and "en1installer2".

It's almost as if the way GOG informs users of important changes they know are for the worse (with unmarked forum threads) was ridiculously inefectual.

It's also as if people were so busy with suprisingly vitriolic arguments over the downloader itself they completely miss this issue while it keeps biting people in the ass.

This is correct; it's entirely possible to use GOG Galaxy exactly as the same way as the Downloader, while ignoring all the other features. This is what I do and I've had no problems with it. The only issue is that when installing the game from the standalone installer downloaded through Galaxy, by default it will create a desktop shortcut that points to Galaxy. You can get round this by launching the game directly from the .exe file, or making a new shortcut that points to the .exe.

GOG's communication over this has been terrible, I agree, but then what's new. :P

Yep, classic gog communication. Did you know for instance there were two games released just yesterday called barrow hill. Thought it was just a sale!

Well... A news post on the front page would mean a similar visibility. Down there... at the bottom of the page... for two days, before it vanishes into a non-accessible archive oO

True, and I already spoke of that in (I think) the original "we say goodbye" thread. The fact that GOG managed to make their actual "news section" completely disfunctional only compunds the problem.

I'll be honest - while I sympathise with people who lost what was for them a usefull feature, I think the true issue in this situation is the one of GOG's terrible communication, both in terms of their inability to communicate such news, or in fact almost any news, in a visable fashion, and the fact that no explanation of their action beyond a vague, worthless PR statement was ever given despite the outspoken demand for one, showing gross disrespect of the userbase and incompetence in managing customer relations.

This is an issue that comes up time and time again, with numerous people not knowing about the galaxy-bundling installing the client unwittingly with their offline game installers, with people not informed about the user profiles having their private info left on display without even knowing it, games being removed with nary a warning and now this.

This is what we should be pressing GOG about.

That's the point.

But making it explicit would not have sounded cool.
I mean, the last time they tried to be "cool" about "good news", it kinda backfired a bit.

No. The forum search just sucks. Much better to use an external search engine like DuckDuckGo, Bing, or Google and append site:gog.com/forum to the search terms.
