karnak1: I've been looking to buy Rise of the Dragon and Heart of China for a long time now. But only 20% discount for 30 year old games?!
Greedy Activision bastards! I imagine that, if Call of Duty games were being sold here, we'd never get more than a 30% discount on them. Must be the "DRM-free tax" or something :P
Oh come on. The base price is little over 5€, and you expect them to give some high discounts on that?

That may be the reason GOG or the publishers are unwilling to bring many oldies to the store: people are simply not willing to pay for the games.

You're obviously joking with me.
Because you've got plenty of old games here (and many indies too) whose original price is 5 or 10$ and often are sold at a 75% discount (or sometimes even more).

Does the publisher loses money for selling them for 1.5$? I suspect not.

On the case of "Rise of the Dragon" I bought the original game when it came out (one of the first games I bought for the PC) and it can be found on almost any abandonware site.
Yes. It's just a case of Activision being cheap bastards.

I have no problem paying full price for a game of a small publisher who needs money to fund their projects or making a living. But this does not apply to the guys who won't even bring "Call of Duty 1" to GOG. Specially because I don't think Jeff Tunnell sees a dime of the game's royalties.

Space Quest games are currently 75% off for me. Plus Sierra *Quest games are sold in collections, so you get between 2 and 5 games for each purchase. Honestly, they are not expensive at all even without discounts, given how good they are (if you don't mind the interface and low-res graphics).

I already have the entire Sierra classics collection (King, Space, Police, Larry, For Glory, etc). What is strange is that some of these games - like Space Quest or Quest for Glory - always had good discounts since they first got in the store. While other games (like the King's Quest series) never had as good discounts. I suppose that could also related to the game fame. King's Quest probably had more fame than the Space series. I don't remember Police Quest series ever getting a 75% discount, but I could very well be mistaken. Which is strange because it's a lesser known series than the other Sierra games.

I can understand that some people will think I'm a miser or something. Although I'm hardly one, since I already own more than a 1000 games on GOG and I support the store and publishers whenever possible.
Although I admit that some things still shock me. Like Activision selling very old (and some of them not so good) adventure games for as much as 9$, while the also "greedy" EA selling the great Ultima RPGs (with dozens of hours of gameplay and some of them still highly playable today) at only 5$. I mean... just recently I finished Ultima Underworld for the 3rd time and just this game alone would easily be worth 9$. Yet EA sells both 1+2 for 5$ ! And when there are sales these classics usually get a 75% discount.

Of course, all my arguments can be labeled as subjective or controversial. Again, my gripe is not against the price of the games "per se". I can understand a small publisher like Ziggurat or Nightdive selling old games for a high price in order to get some needed cash flow. But a colossus like Activision?? :(
That YouTube video...

More Activision games would be great

It's not that, it's because all those games owned by Activision were realesed at the full price, then went 20% off, then 30% off and later 50% off etc. But the latest batch (like HoC or Shivers) are stuck at 20% off (with only RotD receiving bigger discount which was 75% off).

Ppl who wanted to buy it without discount or with the small one already bought those games.

But for example, I won't buy Lighthouse or Conqueror or Cyberstorm without 50% off, just because I don't care for those games. I want them because I buy all old games on GOG, even those I won't even play (probably). But for games I won't play I'm not keen to pay more that 3$ (about 10-12 PLN).

And that is why I imagine, some ppl are not happy with such small discount for those Activision classics - because it's useless.

And because I don't want to sound like cheap bastard, for games I want because I played them in my youth (like for example Warlords series) sometimes I pay full price.

Alongside with Lucasarts, the best adventure game studios of all time, and pioneers in many aspects.

Btw, should be great to add Shivers 2, EcoQuest 1 & 2, Lost in Time and Urban Runner in GOG!

toxicTom: ... or space janitor? :-)

How can you not talk about Space Quest here?!
Because if they would, people might start lamenting the absence of SQ1 VGA.

...oh wait, they already do...

HG1995: Space quest 1 VGA and king's quest 1 sci still missing here.
Hopefully GOG will add these eventually.
Please allow me to join the grieving...

Slasky: With all these Sierra classics, where is Outpost?

joveian: Yes, that would be great, both of them. I see the main wishlist entries have about 1000 votes each, plus several duplicates:

Quite ashamed that I didnt know about this wishlist. Added a vote for both of em

NovusBogus: It would be really interesting if GOG managed to get enough access to the code and resource files to add in some of the famously missing content.

Or maybe someone should just make a spiritual sequel. Planetbase and Surviving Mars had potential, but they both lacked the complexity and deep management mechanics that made both Outpost games such a good time. I've occasionally thought about it, but lack the time and energy for a side project of that magnitude.
One can only hope! We nee more classics like these!

Very nice article. I have countless fond memories with Sierra and these games and they bring a smile to my face every time I see, think of and play one of these games. My nephew has started playing the early King's Quest games and it's so fun to see him try to solve the puzzles. It's no wonder I already own everything in the available catalog. As others have said, I'm really hoping to see more.

Indeed. Launch announcements tend just include a couple of sentences that say next to nothing about the game for a long time now, but these articles that have been showing up lately do bring back a feeling of what GOG should be about, at least in this little aspect.

As for Sierra, they were probably the first gaming company I could have called a favorite, and whose games I was rather looking for, in the mid 90s. (Then again, in the same period was the pre-Unreal age of Epic too, but in their case it was more of a matter of availability.) QfG2 may well have been my favorite game played in the 90s, or at least the early and mid 90s. Can't say I played many others though, other than QfG1 and 3 too, I mean, which were also nice. Bounced right off 4, didn't care to even try 5 at all, did go through LSL1-3 but that just required having a walkthrough to do it right, couldn't really play it in itself. And then there was SQ5 too. That may be it though.

Are you aware of, that with more than 1.400 games in your account, you are a real GOG patriot!!?? Many thanx for your support. I do really appreciate that!
