Breja: I think I just encountered something like that playing Medal of Honor Pacific Assault (yeah, I gave in and bought another game on the sale, though I'm still not sure if picking that over Party Hard was a good idea :D).

I assumed the game would be pretty much exactly like Allied Assault I replayed recently. And it's not. One of the major changes is how healing is handled. There are no health packs. instead, you need to call for you squad medic to come and help you. It got me killed quite a few times early on, as I went charging in guns blazing, expecting to find some health packs in my way. There were none, and my medic was not always able to get to me in time. Or willing to, the team AI is somewhat wonky.

Anyway, now that I realised the team medic is not just there to help me when I'm dying, but pretty much my only way of healing at all, I'm playing smarter, keeping close to my squad and it's going much better. I guess it's a little more realistic, but feels strange after Allied Assault, really changes entirely the game dynamic.
Cool, looking forward to that then as I liked the Allied Assult series but haven't played PA yet, and while I love most of the various different types of FPS games out there my favourite sub-genre is TCS, which unfortunately is a dying breed to which only the ArmA series seems to be keeping alive and well. I'm currently bouncing back and forth on the idea of buying the current ArmA Humble Bundle tier 3 to pick up the 3 DLC I'm missing for ArmA 2, as well as Tactics and the ArmA 3 game. Good to know Pacific Assault has a bit of the TCS flavour to it though too.

timppu: Playing Fallout Tactics (with Redux 1.3 mod), I've tried to make especially my main character an uber-sniper, ie. he has perception = 9 (soon to be 10 when I use the "improve PE" perk), he also has the Sharpshooter perk (which gives +2 bonus to perception for sniping, meaning better accuracy on longer ranges) and he has the best sniper rifle the game has to offer at the moment...

...yet every now and then I encounter enemies that can easily out-snipe him from afar, even without actual sniper weapons (but someimes with heavy machineguns that do massive damage to you). WTF, do those enemies have well over 10 perception, or how are they able to shoot at me from so far? It is like I am so far from them that I have a 15% chance of hitting them with my sniper rifle... yet they constantly hit me from that same distance. I am quite often on the receiving end and have to flank them (using stealth) and try to surprise them from the back.

And then, sometimes when I think I encounter similar enemies, those I can out-snipe pretty ok, so it isn't quite consistent. Do different enemies have different sniping accuracies? Sometimes I even feel it depends on the angle that is between you and the enemy, if you approach from a different angle, you might outsnipe them.

Not quite sure what to think about it... I am playing the game on the hardest difficulty so I don't know if that grants all enemies extra points to all attributes so that many of them are such god-like snipers (even with machine guns).
Sounds to me like the game is cheating.

phaolo: Sorcerer needed charisma and thieves needed intelligence instead of wizards?
What a weird system.. O_o
Agreed. Under the then-new D&D 3.0 ruleset, intelligence became useful for 1) noticing secret doors, 2) identifying enemy spells, 3) boosting the success rate of all other skills, and 4) disarming traps.

Of those, only the last really mattered; because rogues only got one chance per trap to disable it (barring cheat moves such as reloading a save). Whereas you could walk by a "secret" door again and again until someone in your party finally noticed it.

On the other hand, charisma was needed by 1) sorcerers and rangers, to be able to use spells of a given level, 2) clerics, for turning, and 3) paladins, for the grand trio of turning, saving throw bonuses and laying on hands (healing).

And with multi-classing being nearly penalty-free (and thus somewhat encouraged) there was a good chance that almost everyone in your party could eventually use some charisma, but only rogues really needed to bother with having smarts.

I thought this is another thread about No Man's Sky.
Got disappointed.

What kind of mind fuck thing is that?

Maybe... but I am unsure if you really can have e.g. perception over 10, e.g. if you had maximized it to 10 on character creation, and then use the "increase perception" perk, do you get PE 11? Maybe that is what some of those enemies have then...

And as said, to me it doesn't seem quite consistent. Sometimes I can outsnipe enemies just fine (I can even outsnipe turrets, ie. destroy them from ranges that they can't hit me, as long as I get a bead on them), sometimes I really struggle and start taking major damage from enemies when I am merely approaching them crawling (which increases my accuracy and probably also makes me a harder target to hit). It especially puzzles me when some of them are using heavy burst weapons, and shooting at me from sniper ranges.

I am unsure if this is due to the mod or does the vanilla game behave similarly. Anyway, I survive, in those cases I have to use some other tactic then. Fortunately most of my team have quite good stealth so I can also try to flank the enemies and surprise them from behind, it just takes more time.

Most games under Wine when you're too lazy to install them native and instead try to run them from your Windows install directories.
Jet Set Willy series on C64. They are very hardcore platformer games that I wanted to finish without cheats. To do so I had to train a lot - go to different part of a house, make sure that I could beat easily each room and then train in other parts. After making sure I knew the whole game pretty well I managed to complete every room in a single run in Jet Set Willy 1 and then after a month or to moved to Jet Set Willy 2. As it turned out the game consisted of the same rooms like in JSW1, just added some more. Then I thought I wouldn't have much problems - after all I trained really hard and knew the original levels pretty well. But then it turned out that controls in JSW2 are different: Willy took a step forward before jumping (in JSW1 he could jump from a standstill). So I wasn't able to jump properly because I was so much used to the previous games. To beat JSW2 I had to wait for ~2 years. After that time I didn't have any habits so I could start a fresh training. I managed to beat JSW2 too and these are one of my best gaming achievements.

Actually, in D&D 3.x, multiclassing, at least in the case of spellcasters, is far less viable. For example, in 2e, when a single class mage is level 6, a cleric/mage is level 5, still having access to 1st level spells; in 3.x, said character is only level 3 of each class.

The fact that spell resistance is based on relative level in 3.x doesn't help matters either.
One title that came to mind was "This War Of Mine". For some reason, I expected it to play like a turn-based RPG, where you go turn-based rounds during combat, and when it's "peaceful/exploratory" ground, you get to take your time to do things. But it turned out to be quite the opposite. Game functions on a timer limit (something which I'm not too fond of), and combat is real-time.

And yes, I decided to go into the game blind. Overall, it's a neat game though. And if you aren't opposed to using "extra tools". You don't have to worry about things like the timer limit even. :)
