hedwards: My memory used to be a lot better. Ironically because of the ease with which things get stuck in my memory, I wind up having to deal with more polluted memories than other people do.

The worst thing for memory is the internet. Most people don't bother to try and memorize anything anymore as they can just look it up quickly.

Plus, I've had more than a few serious brain injuries over the years, so sometimes things just don't get stored properly.
Sorry to hear that, already all the best!

And no, sitting over a puzzle game and braking your head on the keyboard doesn't count! ;)

OK bad joking beside, AFAIK you can train your memory again (most of the time) to get as good as knew again (except lost memories of damage to those cells)

I somewhere read a medical paper that good old memory game is really helping with brain recovery. They used it on the worst case: Alzheimer-patients and those patients did show quite a bit of improvement, unfortunate the study was discontinued, what a surprise :(

Till know, can't say so, OK unfortunate I do have a good memory, but funny enough not for everything:
Nightmare for me: Birthdays, marriage (being killed already a few times ;) ), street-names.

Never can remember those, BUT phone numbers with the international prefix, no problem, same for like which shops are on a street, yep (even if I never visited them). technical docs, ways to drive to somewhere so all the boring stuff ;)

Reminds me, once after a few years I had to drive again a way, I drove like 2 years priro, no problem at all, didn't even needed a map ;)

My memory problem is the opposite of most people's. I store too many memories and don't dream, so they're less stable than they would be for other people. When I was a kid it wasn't much of an issue because there weren't so many of them, but as I've grown older, I have decades of information and now way of evaluating them.

In fact, I largely stopped trying years ago because the process of verifying the memories and maintaining them was pushing me towards a more autistic existence than I was interested in dealing with.

The brain is a funny, funny thing. It's rather ironic that I wound up smarter than most of the people around me specifically because of brain damage.

Sorry for the later reply, you must made me curios and I just read a bit up on long term storage....

Due too my profession at certain times, I hardly had any sleep at all, but WTF? Like in one week I once had to work 127 hours (don't know if it is correct, the customer wrote the hours down ;) ), but I do remember everything what we did, that was under stress and with insufficient sleep which according what those theories suggest, shall only be a fade memory, yeah right....I even still remember what I ate for this week....

So claiming sleep is necessary, I don't know. But if you were trying and went autistic might point to something different. NOW, if I could remember.... ;)

It had something to do with not enough minerals and a quite specific one.....but not sure anymore if it was too much or too little of it....had to do with IIRC neural synapses transmission....

I only read it quickly and quite a while ago....

I will try to remember it and will let you know (unless you want to search for yourself ;) )
EDIT: It was also about a rare , sorry no other word in my mind, disease...it isn't really one, just a genetic alteration...and it is being overlooked easily...

It's rather complicated, sleep, memory, schizoaffective, autism, they're all inter-related. The sensory overload drives the memory, the lack of dreaming prevents the processing and pruning away of the memory and it's very easy to wind up in a sort of a vicious cycle where they feed into each other.

Autism itself is primarily a sensory integration problem and likewise the various schizo disorders are basically memory problems. But, if you're constantly being bombarded with sensory information that isn't being processed, but is still being stored, you wind up with all sorts of interesting things that go on.

Sleep is necessary, it's not possible to live more than about 11 days before the toxins build up to the point where you die. And you'll probably be completely out of your mind within a business week.

Anyways, the brain is a rather bizarre thing. Speaking of which, if I don't get some rest, I'll need to have a visit to my doctor. But I do dispute the claim that people make that everybody dreams. I regularly go months without dreaming and when I was younger I'd go years without having any dreams at all.

groze: If a game is in your library -- and you rightfully paid for it -- GOG is probably not going to remove the game or take away your rights to it. I can't speak for every removed game, but the ones I own that were eventually removed from the store (which now are only the Fallout trilogy and Re-Volt, but they used to include both Guilty Gear X2 and Isuka, the Penumbra Collection, AquaNox 2, Painkiller Black Edition and Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising) are still there, I never lost access to any of them -- and I never lost access to the ones that were removed but eventually are being sold again, for that matter. I can still download all the three original Fallouts and Re-Volt, plus all the goodies that came with those games originally.
Yep. The only case I remember where a GOG game was actually pulled (intentionally) from people's accounts was the Mac version of Imperial Glory. Just checked it, only the Windows version is there for me to download. I don't recall how GOG handled that case, probably refunded the money to Mac owners who were not happy about the Mac version disappearing from their accounts.

Then there was some case where part of the extras (soundtrack?) were silently removed for some game.

Of course, if and when GOG ever closes its doors, naturally people won't be able to download their GOG games anymore. Thinking of Desura. You still have licenses to the games you have purchased and right to use them, but the service through which you download them is cancelled. And if there was any part of the game that required the service, that wouldn't work anymore of course.

So you have the right to use the games, but not necessarily the ability (if there is some DRM, or you didn't download your game in time (in the case of a DRM-free game)).

Did you check the User Agreement?

http://www.gog.com/support/policies/gog_user_agreement

There they say under which circumstances (for example if you distribute the games) they can terminate the customer relationship.

However if you downloaded all games before you can never ever lose any rights regarding the single player ability of the games you rightfully paid for. That's the marvel of DRM free (unlike most games on Steam for example).

I don't lose any second of sleep over this question because I feel very safe with GOG.

groze: I'm not sure about TOCA Race Driver 3 and XIII, as those games were removed for more obscure and convoluted reasons, and maybe GOG actually removed access to them from all previous owners, but you'd have to ask someone who actually bought them here on GOG as to whether they still have them in their library or not.
Don't touch my XIII ;)
