ColaPoweredGamer: So, there is no way to successfully stop the forum abusers? I don't want to step on someone's toes, and get a bad rep.

Can I petition GOG stuff to improve the forum? If people are using multiple accounts or bots to give posts low ratings, it's a bad image for the forum. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
Wishlist won't do you much good since Highly voted games have been rejected and ignored to a point that some low voted games got passed. Just ignore the Rep system and be yourself, We live in an easily offended society these days so you'll trigger the snowflakes eventually. There is nothing more fun in life than triggering the easily offended.

Some unknown people seem to conduct a vendetta against the user "Gamerager" and will vote down any of his posts, no matter the content (also other users in threads made by "Gamerager").
More generally, you'll get downvoted here if you post anything even remotely "controversial" that for some reason offends the sensibilities of whoever's doing all this downvoting.
I also doubt one could say the Gog forum has a "great community", it's rather toxic imo (though nowadays heavy-handed moderating by Gog staff, with generous use of bans and thread locking, will usually suppress arguments before they really escalate).

kai2: Although I tend to agree in theory, the GOG forum has a fair number of people who have very specific and entrenched views on a lot of subjects... and don't tend to tolerate different or opposing views (even on games). Far from a terrible place, it (GOG) has a genuine amount of hostility that often plays counter to the forum rules.
It doesn't really matter though, in the end. If you're nice to others they will like and help you regardless of your low forum reputation. Just ignore the rep system, it's not worth getting upset over.
A lot of people here use rep as basically a "disagree" button and that's just something you have to accept if you post here. It's an "is what it is" situation. Try not to worry about it, as long as you're friendly and steer clear of too much political discussion your rep should be fine. I tend to only lose rep when I take one side or another in the current "social justice war" some people are waging.

Political discussions are banned btw by the forum's code of conduct (I recently got a one-week suspension for having violated that ban, so it is enforced).

IMO, it's neither of those things. It's just a very mixed bunch of all kinds of people, some very friendly and helpful, some rather bitter and aggressive, some both, depending on their current mood etc. It's not homogenous in any case, and too big to be actually "great" or "nice" in its entirety, just like almost everywhere else on the internet. The really nice communities are usually communities that are so niche, small and unknown, that they haven't attracted any trolls and hotheads yet. And it's easier to get along in smaller groups, too.

Yes, agreed... but it's still demoralizing by design.

It's ok, if one only talks about games (the real purpose of this site after all).
If one makes the mistake to discuss anything else, it's a rather frustrating site imo.
So one should stick to discussing games (even though I don't always follow that advice myself).

The fact that indiscriminately all comments in this thread went from high rated to neutral and from neutral to low rated just seems to prove that there's massive troll voting going on without any rhyme or reason other than to piss those people off who might actually care, and I think complaints about the rep system are drawing the attention of these trolls. It's mostly not the community at large who's downvoting, it's just some sad individuals who have nothing better to do, and/or their army of bots. Just ignore it and don't let any of it get to you.

I'm honestly wondering what happened. I stopped posting 2 years ago and well, the reputation system was abused then but holy god if I see this thread I'm wondering why it hasn't been removed yet.

But the weirdest part is seeing no mods replying to threads anymore.
Where did they all go?

2 years ago mods actively participated in discussions and there was hardly any moderation whatsoever on these forums, judging by what I read here it's become a lot more moderated all the while moderators have distanced themselves from the community.

Has this been happening for a long time now?

P.S. I have looked at other threads to see if they are as bad as this one, and at a quick glance they don't seem to be as low rated as here. I wonder why this one is getting targeted in particular.

Also while I'm at it, what happened to GOG all of the sudden pushing Galaxy?
I'm glad we still get the option for an offline copy but it's been renamed into obscurity. Offline downloads is what made GOG stand out, no launcher for every damn game and a supportive community with mods that care about the community.

Now it's just become a steam alternative it seems, only difference being that most games don't have DRM.
But some, like Mount & Blade Warband, actually do.

Most threads by me have been hard hit as well as some others who are disliked by whoever is doing it, no matter the content....probably by bots and such.

Also as to why it's still in use(r*p system)....they are too busy or cheap to remove or remake it, most likely.

They are too busy I guess, seeing as gog laid off some staff due to budget cuts awhile back, and also due to the pc crowd's complaints for various things(such as "bad" tweets).

Now they only police the forums a bit and reply a bit to some news posts.

As said above: They are too busy due to staff cuts and other concerns, and likely a bit of laziness.

For at least the past year or so that i've been back here, it has.

I am guessing because the OP asked about me being downrated for a giveaway on the forums(multiple posts in that have been low rated when i;m just thanking people and giving out games, and others have been low rated as well to normal rated), and some here dislike me or those who even sort of defend me or my posts....as well as other people they dislike.

They are trying to be the new steam while at the same time trying to be unique.....and failing at both to some degree.

The first rule about the rep system: You don't talk about the rep system. ;)

The most mind boggling thing is that at some point they actually acknowledged that many were not happy with the lack of communication and several new developments, so they invited selected community members to the GOG HQ in Warsaw to have a talk about how relations could be improved. GOG staff listened and promised to do better in the future. But since then nothing really has changed, at least not for the better.

I like to upvote post that shouldn't be downvoted so much some times.

paladin181: Some people have angered a mob of people (or just a few with multiple accounts) and their every post is voted down for existing. It's silly and stupid, but that's what people do.
This can mean only one thing... pretty much ignore 'low rated' because that and the rep is rather pointless if it doesn't actually do it's job.

I'm sure there's probably a grease-monkey plugin someone could make that strips it all away... Though that's per person so *shrugs*

Request a change of username? Bet that would throw it off
