nightcraw1er.488: You can't play Gwent, and a fair few of the games require galaxy for multiplayer, so galaxy requirement is not far off
avatar
Gekko_Dekko: old games still work without galaxy and dont even include galaxy parts in their installers. I think, for people, who remember gog being GoodOldGames, it wont happen - GoG is ruined by managers, but they clearly understand that addition of galaxy as requirment will kill their business (coz it will be just another steam with less games)

nightcraw1er.488: It's not quite as bad here, but they are striving really hard to get there.

Gekko_Dekko: I didnt understand this part quite well, so - probs my post will make no sence. But anyway - personally, I find galaxy worse than steam. Yes, games are still drm-free, all that. But, damn, galaxy.dll is requirment, not optional dependency. For games with galaxy featues, it exist in galaxy-free installers and, what bothers me - send information to gog servers. I have very few such games, so - didnt play with firewall rules yet. But people reporting that blacklisting everything will make such games crash (may be wrong - didnt try by myself. I've only seen that galaxy.dll cant be removed from these games). Which is bs

Vainamoinen: Besides, honestly curious question to the Steam users: Can you log into Steam with your facebook account?
avatar
Gekko_Dekko: iirc - nope. But you can link your facebook account to steam to share your posts, purchases and screenshots with facebook. Also can (atleast could) link youtube account to automatically post new vidyas into steam feed. Maybe something else
GoodOldGames is long gone. Focus has changed 2 or 3 years back. There is the occasional old release. Nothing worth writing home about. There is less interest in that, and you can get quite a few on steam, just use the client as a downloaded or use the steam command line to download, as most use gog downloader or galaxy there is very little difference. In truth the only two meaningful differences are the mod workshop (likely already being worked on due to recent giveaways with nexusmods) and CEG which is the drm component - which is optional for the developer. True Steam has a vastly larger catalog, the prices are better etc. But I won't call those as base differences.
The second part, I as being sarcastic, gog is not quite yet Steam but with things like profiles and social media integration they are trying really hard.

Vainamoinen: According to their new Privacy Policy effective April 25, 2018 subsection 10.3 they can totally do that.
They could already perfectly do that before IF they wanted to, the only difference is that now it has to be written differently in the EULA.
