Two more:
Dark Reign and KKND2
Quite possibly the first Witcher game. Fantastic intro.

huppumies: See, I feel you already read more into my message then was there. I never said there should be none, even though I prefer to have less.
And yes, I try not to play cinematic games. I don't generally read walls-of-text in a game. I try to stick to things I like.
I was not trying to dictate what every game should be. I do think more games should try to tell the story in ways that only games can, but there is no one size fits all in this.
I saw this thread and gave my opinion on intros: because I generally feel sitting through an intro is a chore, for me less is more. It's just how I am. I think you may have assumed some antagonism on my part that wasn't there.
Are we cool?
What got to me was this bit (the first sentence, in particular):
Games are a unique storytelling medium and should play to their strengths. If I want to read, I'll pick up a book. If I want to watch a show, I'll put one on and sit back.
That came off to me as a dictum that you felt should apply to all games -- hence my snark in my original reply. It's good to hear that you can at least tolerate the existence of games that defy your preference. :P
And yes, we cool.
Playing my huge Ps3 backlog tonight; i was really amazed by ZoE Hd collection 5 minutes long anime intro!

My two favorites have always been the intros to Ace Combat 4 and The Dig.
Yesterday's remaster release reminded me of another good intro:
Ain't no rest for the wicked

Hope to see it on GOG someday, but afraid that there might be techical problems with GOG Galaxy and cooperative walktrough (as it was with "Saints Row: The Third" or "Jagged Alliance: Rage!", for example).
Chrono Trigger SNES intro shows an epic adventure you are about to embark on. Such an amazing way to start a game.
I remember pretty well that, for a period, Diablo II was the best game ever as in cinematic cutscenes. The 3D graphics, man... They were just INCREDIBLE...

Then time passed, and now they aren't so incredible anymore :-P The game still is the best ever though....
I like Hob. You'll be thrown in a strange world with no explanation. And during the game there is not much talk. The game has two endings...one of them will lead to..............

The best ones seem to have already been named. So, for its time, Bart Versus the Space Mutants had a neat little intro.

Mass Effect 2.
Darksiders 2.
Devil May Cry 5.

Fzero X . Short and to the point. Remember to turn up the volume as the start is quiet.
I always liked the Worms games intros
