Telika: Aaah, not far but older. The genre is right.
Das Boot
The soldiers have m16s so I guess not.

Is it Firefox?
Not Firefox either, but yeah, that's still pretty much the idea.

Cooler than Clancy, lighter than Buchheim, but this beloved author of mine wrote stories set in both eras.

Let's narrow the setting there.

Definately Ice Station Zebra.
Looking at that last picture, those guys must be freezing being surrounded by all that Styrofoam. :P

Absolutely. Gotta love Alistair MacLean (and Patrick McGoohan).

Your turn.

Yyyyeah. It's a bit one of the two major flaws of that film. The least convincing arctic ever. It does switch from cinema to theatrical play at some point. BUT, despite of this (and a wonky traitor subplot) I adore that film. The underwater sequences are great. And it's full of Patrick McGoohan trying to outpatrickmcgoohan himself, and sometimes succeeding. So, who cares.

True, it has a better plot than all James Bond movies put together, I also like Where Eagles Dare, great to see two movie legends work together (Burton and Eastwood).

Next one shouldn't be too hard.
